They are still halogen filaments, and sit in the same place in our reflectors. The beam pattern will not change.
Now, it is going to be brighter, and that includes the ideas where the reflector is not doing a good job keeping light out of, eg. the area above the cutoff. I'd bet dollars to doughnuts however it's still well within legal tolerances, this is not like putting HIDs in our housings causing a bunch of glare and a sloppy pattern.
High beam bulbs, either 9011 or 9005, don't have the opaque coating on the end like 9006/9012 capsules.

That's correct, if you use a high beam bulb in the low beam, you will get a distinct hotspot.

But if that's your concern, what's stopping you from using a 9012?

Nothing, which is why I've used HIR capsules for the past five years.

Did the price of these bulbs go up? I just got off the phone with my local John Deere and they quoted me $27.75+tax. It's still cheaper than these HIR "dealers" but more expensive than $13.

nearly twice as bright. plus even better, it doesn't have a silly blue filter that blocks light output in order to appear a certain colour! the silverstars have to be overdriven to simply equal stock bulb output because of that stupid filter and as such they burn out so much faster.

You cut a little bit of plastic off one tab to make it fit - something the government mandated to prevent interchanging bulbs. It won't install without this mod.

HIR 9011 and 9012 bulbs are exactly identical in all dimensions to 9005 and 9006 bulbs, except for two areas, the second of wh

it's not that popular because people don't want to go to the effort or don't believe it's really all that.. you can find them on ebay or order through a John Deere dealer.

HIR Headlights 9011 9012 bulbs

The only place I've ever bought them from. The prices seem to have gone up on low beams, however, so I'd check around at John Deere first.

Has it been confirmed that all new HIR bulbs purchased require both trimming of the tabs AND shaving the base down thinner to fit the headlight housings?

Yes, that's correct. There's no way around it.

For those of you who changed out the stock bulbs and went with HIR bulbs.. did you have to readjust the height on your headlights? It seems as though the height is a lot higher than it was before. Like I don't see the hot spots on the ground..
