I'm gonna take a wild guess (and will reconsider once I get behind the wheel well shield and find otherwise) that it's to connect to a high-beam/other bulb if they are both connected together in the same housing after the place where that in-line rubber gasket would go. Sort of make sense that the connectors are still OEM style for the "other" bulb that isn't being replaced. The other wires make sense in terms of connecting them to the HID ballast and the additional wiring is easily matched up going thru the gasket/grommet/whatever it is so that snipping should be easy and not cause any problems (at least from what I can see without ohm-ing the cables out)

I'll try to take some pictures in the AM of the "new" configuration harness and when I get into the replacement. My guess is that a pair of wire clippers will come in handy...

i cant believe what idiots u guys are about to be
FIRST OFF take a picture of what u see and either me, Orient, or striker will give u an explanation to what it is
NEVER cut any wires off of your ballast or your harness THEY ARE THERE FOR A REASON
I still cant believe u guys
this is why people assume every noobie to the site is an idiot, because someone who knows NOTHING about electrical is giving advice.... OMG

OK - spent the night sleeping on it and I think I have it figured out. The "extra" cable is the extension wires from the original bulb OEM connector back to the ballast (at least that's what I'm guess here without having opened up the wheel well as of yet). It was a bit confusing since it was molded in the rubber gasket/grommet until I went through all the parts in the kit and realized that there wasn't anything included to connect electrically from the original connection back to the ballast as originally outlined by OE.

Pic of the part is attached...

As to

I don't recall anything about 'giving advice' only what I was observing and intending to investigate further. As to knowing "NOTHING" about electrical - I've been dealing with electronics and electrical systems for more than 30 years and clearly recognize the need to investigate and trace before blindly whacking away at wires (early lesson when getting "bit" by 8,000 VDC and being tossed across the room). My comments in the post were to offer a possible explanation for the 'extra' wires and were always notated with "will check when I open it up" - apologies if anyone took this as 'advice'...and will post with more caution in the future so that other "noobies" don't get misguided info...

So that extra cable goes to the 9005 bulb for the high beams?

Both of the cables are used for the low-beam installation

First off, the grommet is only for installations that have connectors inside of a headlight housing. The grommet can be safely removed and the HID bulb and the other cable can be separated.

In the Civic installation, the stock connector that plugs into the stock 9006 bulb is too short to route down to the ballast. The cable with the blue and black wire is an extension cable to facilitate the connection. One end plugs into the white connector that was originally connected to the OEM bulb, and the other end plugs into the input side of the ballast.

The new HID bulb then plugs into the cable that is attached to the ballast.

Now, any questions?

man i would think this stuff is common sense. even if you're a big noob, if you look at the wiring and connections, they all match up in connection with something else. if you cant see that, i dont think you should be installing this kit urself.

And it is a good question. Don't feel down or anything because I'm sure others had questions about the same issue. If you're new at something, then you should ask question. Otherwise, if anything is damaged then you'll have to pay with your own money.

Yes, never hesitate to ask if you can't figure something out, but try to figure it out before asking.

There are no real stupid questions. Some questions are good for a laugh, but they are not necessarily stupid.

2.5 hours to install both, and change the wiper blades .

After getting the clarifications from this thread, it all fell together and became apparent once I opened up the wheel wells to see what I had to work with.

Thanks to OE for the original posting and suggestion of the tack puller - got all those clips out without breaking one! Thanks to everyone else for their comments - sorry if I got the thread all worked up over my posts - sometimes it takes a bit of thinking and actually opening up the car to see the light! My apologies if anyone got overly excited or needed their medication - PM your address to me and I'll send you a get well card and a Starbucks coupon. As noted by Gsnake, I've never been into the guts of the Civic and didn't realize that the kits had 'mutated' and weren't the same as originally depicted. Hence my "senior moment" and the posting.

Group hug if I promise not to post again without thinking/looking???

I got mine installed tonight and it was a real pain, i didn't have my computer with me so i couldn't check your diy and in the 08 there is almost no room to install the ballast in the driver side so i had to find a different spot to mount them. I'll take some pictures later to check with you guys because it does look really close to the place where you said not to mount them .
