alright...so i finally decided not to be lazy anymore and try to install this kit on my car. i started off with my driver side first. 1. jacked up the car...2. removed tire....3. remove all the little fasters so i can get into that area as mentioned....4. DOH! i noticed that the stock snorkel and resonator is in this area.

for those of you with si's and w/o a cai, where'd you mount your ballast on the driver side????

oh yeah...the steps i took after coming across this little dilemma....5. put tire back on....6. lower car....7. drag my ass back up to my apartment to get online and ask for help....8. wait for replies/tips and try again tomorrow...hahahaha.

thanks in advance guys!

wow don't use WD40 it eats rubber use Silicone this will work much better. The silicone will be absorbed by the rubber.

calircr,

i ran into the same thing on the drivers side as well, i didnt take pictures of where i installed mine, but i can use a pic from the OP to show you what i did.

you should have a hole here where you can mount the bracket, however since the airbag sensor is directly below its NOT recommended that you bend the bracket down such that the ballast is located very close to the sensor.

Instead you can bend the bracket slightly upwards such that the ballast will be resting on TOP of the wheel liner, you can then place felt on the underside of the bracket, just as the OP suggests for the passenger side.

just make sure the ballast is secure in the bracket, i had to bend one of the tabs on the bracket, and now the ballast sits very securely and does not move at all.

Anyone else order from 9898, I ordered mine October 1st and still havent gotten them yet, he told me there was a national holiday for 3 days, and finally said he shipped them yesterday the 6th, and who knows when they will get here, he said he shipped via UPS but didn't have the tracking number yet. Ugh

I'm sure most of everyone posted in this thread including myself has ordered from him. Just be patient, he told he just shipped it and it could be there witin a week or more if there is int'l inspection that some people had theirs go thru which holds a few more days.

The biggest downfall is that you lose the ability to flash someone because HIDs take a bit of time to start up. Also, you don't tend to use high beams for a very long time like you do with high beams. Turning them on and off constantly would wear them down quite a bit.
Thanks...I didn't even think about losing the bright flash. I'll have to do a bit more thinking before I do anything.

T117, thanks for the suggestion. My only concern is that if you were to angle it upwards, wouldn't that promote moisture to run towards the ballast. Anyone else have any other ideas as to where to mount the ballast?

yea i know what you mean, but you can actually place the ballast in the mounting bracket so that the connectors will be on the bottom and moisture will not run towards the ballast. if you dont want to do that you can just get some electrical tape and use a couple layers over the connectors.

but still if anyone else has any suggestions about the mounting location i would be happy to hear them as well?

How about putting the ballast where you suggest, but instead of bolting it on top of the support bracket, bolt it underneath the bracket, behind the airbag collision sensor. This way you can bend the bracket so the ballast points down.

Striker is right on this one..they are illegal...anything that modifies the OEM DOT standard is considered illegal. same with retro fits...although cops tend to leave them alone it is illegal. Modifying the headlight in anyway according to some law makes it illegal...

I'm not sure what you mean, but they can still give you a "fix it" ticket. Meaning you either return them to stock or if they pull you over again it's a $250 fine in NC. after that I think it's like improper use of a motor vehicle.

wrong. ignorance is not an excuse. it might make them be more lenient but you can still get a ticket, if its illegal. and you can modify headlights and still be legal. as long as what you do to them is also DOT approved.
