awesome write up. gives people another option as opposed to retrofitting their housings. since you've got a pic of how the cutoff is, would it be possible to take a picture of the housing at night in front but slighty off to the side so you don't pick up too much glare from the headlights. I'm just curious as to how the front end looks with it on... thanks!

again..thanks for the DIY, definitely well thought out and informative!

Looks nice in the daytime, but those are some nasty hotspots that'll glare other drivers.

that looks really sweet, im defintely going to pick those up as an xmas gift for myself, like buying the car a month ago and vacation in cancun 3 weeks ago wasnt enough of a gift lol.

im thinking putting this HID kit and then retro fitting projectors in place of the round halogen section of the headlight.

has anyone done that? i figure the projector would fit in nicer in the round section.

Projectors in the high-beam/DRL portion of the headlight? That has not been done, yet. Dual projectors would be a bit much, even for me.

Trust me, it's not that bad. Much better than being in front of a SUV with HID's in projectors or some idiot in a car with their high beams on.

Yes, that is correct, the connector for the OEM bulb plugs into the Ballast, and the ballast plugs into the new bulb. No cutting or rewiring is necessary. As an added bonus, the ballast only draws 35W vs 55W for the OEM bulb. This means that not only does the Xenon bulb run cooler in the reflector housing, but the entire system draws less current as well.

One point that I forgot to mention is that if you notice where I have mounted the ballast, it is fairly high in the wheel well, and that the electrical connectors are pointed down. While the ballast housing is completely waterproof, it is best to prevent the ballasts getting submerged while driving in normal rain situations, and to prevent water from collecting in the connector housing of the ballast. Even though the connectors have some very good seals, I also added a glob of lithium grease in the connector to further weather seal the connection. The rest of the Ballast housing is sealed, and is completely water-proof, so ideally one could even add HID lighting to their Waverunner!

I wasn't going to do HID's, but after seeing how easy and inexpensive this is, I might just have to...

time to start saving...

Great diy, +rep!

Where did you put the ballast on the driver's side?

The Drivers side ballast is essentially in the same place. There is a threaded nut welded to the forward bulkhead that makes for a great attachment point.

Exactly the same thing that happens when High Beams are selected with a full halogen light setup. The high beams come on and the low beams stay illuminated.

interesting DIY. I'm considering to do this if i don't get the Phillips or McCulloch kits which are pricey. Whats the warranty and quality on these compared to the ones i mentioned?
