Arrgggh, have to redo my retrofit

I did a projector retrofit DIY back in May 09......No issues, drove from Wisconsin to Jersey and loads of driving all over the east coast since then.......no problems.

Yesterday, out of no where.....the shroud on one head light comes apart within the housing.......can't believe JB weld could not hold that, maybe it became too cold for JB Weld. Gets very cold and windy where I live.

Or maybe its horrible Jersey Roads.

Anyhow, now I have to remove the headlights, bake em apart, redo the shroud.....and have to wait till its at least 50F to be able to touch the car.

Have to drive around with a loose shroud around till mid march I guess. FML

ahhh, sorry to hear that. Did you coarse sand the surface before you apply the JBWeld? That's should help.

good luck, the roads in NJ are the best in the country....but I would do it in the weekends, loose shroud is not good...use plenty of JB weld when you open it apart

Just curious, but why do you have to wait for good weather? Can't you just remove the headlight and fix it indoors? Sorry to hear you're having issues with the retro though. It's worth the hassle, I love my retro's

I need warm weather to take em off the car...its too cold to get that bumper out......I can clear headlights and put em back in 45 mins flat......

yeah, retros are so worth every penny and effort....more value for money than anything.

You may want to look into a more flexible adhesive like Goop. I have used that stuff for everything. JB Weld like most epoxies have a strong hold but get extremely brittle in the cold. They do not tolerate shock and vibration well. For something like slipping a shroud over something, Goop may be the ticket. It is crystal clear, fills gaps wonderfully, and is extremely sticky. It cures into a strong, yet slightly flexible bond that resists cold, heat, and moisture. Look into it.

but I thought goop is not rated for such high temps...I think up to 150F. Did u use quick jb weld or normal weld?

Why do you have to wait until 50-degrees?

Sucks to hear that, I am also in the process of redoing my retros bcuz my cutoff wasnt even. While im at it im going to go with the curve shield mod as well
You should look into High temp RTV silicone gasket maker, thats what i used and it was actually kind of hard to get the shroud off of the projector, just a though.
