why foglights crack/break

with all the Foglight questions, just wanted to ask and see what the reasons were for people who have had cracked/broken foglights. we just installed a set from eBay (K2) and now I'm paranoid. Just want to know if it's because of rocks, crappy roads, etc.

The same way anything else mounted on the front of a car going 40-60-80+ mph breaks.. did you really need to make this thread, or are you just bored?

Rocks... and random debris kicked up on the road.

I've had fogs on my cars for years. Never any problems or breaks.

a little bored. But more interested as to why it seems to be happening so much. Some members are saying they have gone through quite a few lenses already and some gave up on the lights. Of course I understand big enough rocks/debris. I guess the question would be are these lenses so cheap that they can't even take a small hit. If so, our advice to people asking about foglights should be to not even bother as there isn't a quality set available.

Get ready to have broken fogs in about a month. I had a pair of those for my 06 LX Coupe and they cracked in about 2-3 weeks.

They are cheap ebay lenses. They are probably made out of cheap acrylic, instead of polycarbonate. Acrylic tends to break - polycarbonate bends or dents.

Ebay are made of glass, not Acrylic. Plexiglass is acrylic which will melt.

Glass breaks because. A) Its not tempered B) Its around 1/8th to 1/4 in thick.

Why would you buy glass foglights?

Are you sure about that?

oem has thicker lense. I dont have any experience with them but the friend i was talking about bought the oem lenses after the 2nd set of k2 lenses cracked and he never had 1 problem in a year of ownership then sold his car and i have the fogs in my garage waiting to be installed now. oem is better in quality IMO
