I am currently doing my retrofit with the TSX projectors and i was looking into different d2s HID kits and i was wondering if anyone had recommondations.
I have searched a few sites and came up with these
+1 on Retro Solutions, I would recommend OEM ballasts and bulbs if you are OK with the yellow color for maximum output AND reliability. Aftermarket D2S bulbs' quality is varied with some so bad that the arc is off center hindering output.
depends who you ask, I switched from 35W to 55W kit and could defiantly notice an increase in light output, and distance. Not to say that a 35W kit isn't bright it is.
I C ya i just looked on retro solutions site and i am kinda leaning to getting it from him. I use to be on clubrsx when i had an RSX and i know he has had alot of quality work.
Just wish he was offering some kind of discount thou :scratches:
If you're going to get something from retrosolutions, you better do some research on their actual products rather than from people in here. HIDPlanet offers a true background on their kits by knowledgable people whom have done an actual test.
If you're going OEM, get either nissan or toyota made ballasts.
If you're going aftermarket, get the cheapest.
Let me quote someone who works for a company working alongside with the gov't with regards to lighting

" RSX-CT The slim are the same really, a new circuit layout though, and some of the components are not available in mil. spec grade, but these are trivial in terms of perfomance unless you live in the Artic circle or the Australian outback.
The ballasts in the "Class-C" kits are found in many many kits common on the market sold under all sorts of brand names, there is frankly nothing special about them, nothing horrible or defective either. They are still digital control they just do so with off the shelf programmed chips instead of the proprietary DIGITAL brand processors. "
What a bunch of BS from Retro Solutions. His Digital ballasts don't have a single mil spec part inside. Those parts purchased in high volume (for just the ballast) would cost more than his whole kit.
There are no Microprocessors in HID ballasts. Just because it has a digital control circuit does not mean it has a processor of any kind or size inside. This is just more marketing BS to try and make his ballasts sound superior.
one more question? 35W OEM vs 55W aftermarket?...i remember buying a d2s kit from you when i first got my retro done but i forget if they were aftermarket 35W
hmmm I don't think i ever sold an aftermarket product except one set which i gave away.
If you want to buy 55w kit, use true philips bulbs as they will run cooler than the kit bulbs.
What ballasts did you get from me?
^^^sorry didnt mean to make any assumptions or anything...what i meant is i dont know how an OEM kit would look like besides its saying "toyota" or "nissan" or something on the ballasts i'm guessing
but anyway all i remember is it saying "HID something" on the front and then the specs on the back of the ballasts
i have read about the heat problem and what may happen with the plastic melting and such but i have also read on here and clubrsx that no one has really experienced anything like that so far
...this is just what i have read so i dont know how reliable these sources...
i'll probably just cheap it out with the kit bulbs for now and then get the true 55w philips bulbs down the road cause i am strapped for cash right now...unless you got some lying around that you would like to get rid of
edit: just saw a bunch of like the totally burnt connectors to the ballasts, pics of your projector housing all bubbled up from the heat...how long were you running kit bulbs for when that happened?
...are the 55w kits worth it? are they actually brighter/produce more light?
ok just ordered a pair of philips 85122+ bulbs on ebay...now gotta get 55w ballasts...would you know where/who on ebay is reliable? a lot of the items that i searched say 50w 55w so i'm uncertain
ddmtuning for 55w ballasts since they have a lifetime warranty.
