I was just wondering for those who have the PnP HID Kits as to which bulb orientation you have found to produce the best light output & least amount of glare (i.e. Light Output vs Glare)
I'm planning on doing the PnP route in the next few days & since we all know how much of a pain it is to get the bulbs in & out of the sockets (unless you have tiny hands), I'd like to try & just put the bulbs in once, instead of putting in the bulbs, realizing my bulb orientation produces horrible light and/or glare, & having to try & reposition the bulb again.
Correct, but, D2S bulbs and ones based off it are meant for projectors.
Look at a D2R bulb, the shield for reducing glare is on the opposite side of the ceramic. So, turning the bulb upside down (badly) approximates what the shield would do, you're using the wire to block some of the would-be glare.
Now, I wouldn't take my word for it, as I haven't done it, but there was a thread here a little while ago where someone turned their bulbs upside down and it made the cutoff better. I wish I could find it.
Hrmm...interesting...I think I stumbled across that thread earlier, but I guess I couldn't find it again for some odd reason.
Anyway, looks like the OP has the Coupe, I wonder if it's different for the Sedans?
I REALLY hope I don't have to remove the headlights in order to do this because frankly I'm in MN, & right now it's pretty F*in cold out...even inside my garage (currently -3F outside & who knows what it is inside my garage).
No matter what your orientation is, you're going to have a horrible glare and a nonexistant cutoff line. There won't be a noticable difference from the standpoint of the other drivers. They'll all be blinded by your lights so just put them in however it's easiest for you.
you shouldn't have to take the headlights out. If you're careful enough you can go through the wheel well. At most you may have to pull the bumper to place the ballasts where you want them.
Yeah, I figured as much about the initial installation of the HIDs w/ ballasts & whatnot, but I was talking about removing the headlights for the "best" orientation of the bulbs. I guess in order to adjust those 3 screws that hold the bulbs in, the headlight would have to be removed unless I was somehow Gumby or something.
My plan for installation of my PnP HID kit on my '06 sedan is that I'm going to try to remove the bumper for best placement of the ballasts & then go through the wheel well to fit the bulbs (hopefully w/ a "good" orientation that will reduce glare & hotspots).
I guess I'm just a bit concerned w/ glare as I personally get annoyed w/ some of the cars that I can tell have PnP HID kits as their glare is pretty blinding & quite annoying. I guess I just don't want to be "one of them" if you catch my drift.
So I finally installed the kit I got (MOD Express) <-- BAD IDEA, the kit I ordered was off a recommendation from a friend who had the kit in his tC and liked it I guess. Installing it in a Civic is a completely different matter.
The MOD Express Kit:
Just a FYI shipping was insanely fast for this kit, ordered it on Friday & got it Monday. Only thing is that they forgot the relay harness that I ordered with it :/
Anyway, after installing the kit, which was a B*TCH to install because their connector that plugs into the Civic's stock plug had tabs on both sides, so I had to file one of em off as well as file the plug in general down because it was a bit too bit to fit into the Civic's stock plugs. After everything was said & done, I noticed that my lights seemed a bit off...I ordered the 4300k kit, yet it almost appears as if I have a 4300k bulb on the driver's side, & a 5000k/6000k on the passenger's side.
(I know I'm pretty close to my garage & it's sort of @ a slant, but whatever)
Bulbs are in a '06 EX Sedan w/ the return wire @ 6 o'clock position
I HATE the eyebrows that I'm getting with this >.<
Driver's Side:
Passenger's Side:
Here's a good shot of the difference in color/temp:
Yeah, since I JUST installed em tonight, I really haven't had a chance to drive around w/ em, but I have a feeling I'm going to be blinding some people. >.<
I'm deeply regretting NOT getting a kit from XenonDepot now, plus the install of this kit was super annoying as I'm installing this in the winter, in MN, in a single car garage, so not only is the garage cold even w/ a space heater, but the d*mn car is dripping dirty snow & water all over me as I was workin' on the car.
Yea, you'll be blinding everyone on the road. And yea, that's two different temp bulbs. I'd call them and have a new bulb sent overnight. That's BS.
