Both me and my brother baught an 6000k HID from a local seller here in montreal, and one of my brothers headlights turned purple? Is the bulb fried or is it something else?
I'm calling the guy i bought em from later today...
I had my HID kit before my brother got his, and when i drove his car at night after having my HIDs for a few weeks it felt like his lights were barely on...
If I had to redo it I would have probably gotten 4300K kit...
HIR bulbs are a great solution to having much better than stock output AND not just scattering light everywhere immediately in front of you rather than projecting properly down the road in the stock reflector.
I'm fairly biased against PNP HIDs after my experience with them, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
Called the guy we bought them form he said he'd cover it under warranty so it's all good! I`ll try to post pics later tonight unless he gets it fixed before I get to see it...
Ok so my brothers passenger side bulb turned purple last week, today MINE turned purple, same side, same symptoms, same time... Could it be the cold weather? Something wrong with the wiring, like it can't handle the load for the HIDs or something? Or just big coincidence? The guy I bought it from was very surprised and told me this really doesn't happen often, he is covering mine as well... Could it be the cold weather?
I'll be blunt here - I think it's because it's a knock off kit instead of an OEM HID bulb/ballast. Side is coincidental - there's nothing specific denoting that one bulb/ballast can only go to the passenger side (or driver's side). I strongly doubt you'd have this happen if you went with OEM stuff (4300K, to simulate daylight, not 6000K, to simulate a colour).
Anything OEM you would recommend? The replacement bulbs he'll be giving me are 4300K, covered under warranty... If ever it happens again I might look at purchasing something else...
well, OEM HIDs are designed to fit in OEM stockets (D2S for projectors, D2R for specially designed reflectors). So you'd need to get a retrofit or swap out for the CSX projector headlights and bumper if you had a sedan. Hopefully the 4300K should be better for you.
I'd really like to see a pic of this. My bulbs (Used OEM....phillips? I believe) look purpleish unless I squat down and look directly into them. They look colored b/c of the colormod for the cutoff though. They're 4300K obviously. I'd like to see a pic of your purple bulbs
The bulb just doesn't turn on anymore, but thankfully I took a pic with my cell. When your looking at the bulb from outside the car, it doesn't look that purple at all, just looks weaker than the other headlight, when you see it against a wall or on the ground, it's obvious... Let me see if I can get the pic from my phone to my computer...
Yeah it's my passenger side that messed up! On both cars it was the passenger side, same exact problem happened nearly at the same time... Quite odd... If it's a coincidence it's a heck of a coincidence IMO... Will be putting the new bulbs in both cars sometime in the next couple of days, we'll see how long those last...
Nope i didn't, i proceeded with the precision of a neurosurgeon trust me lol
