I think its best to mount the ballasts in the engine bay. I put a cloth below the headlight and went driving in the rain to find out that area gets wet. So put it back more towards the firewall.
I just had my ballast replaced under warranty. The weird thing was, I never drove it in the rain. The ballast should be arriving today.

Ok I installed my hid yesterday; however, I think the driver side mounting point is hard to find. I have it on near the air intake on that black plastic surface but it is gouging the ballast a bit. Does anyone have any pictures and location points for mounting both ballasts? I just got this car so I don't really wish to be moving the bumper or fender for I am afraid it will not align right when I install it back.
btw... the passenger side, I got to the bulb without taking anything but loosening the abs a bit; however, it was still a pain in the ass!!!

I installed mine yesterday too!
![]() Anyway, the driver's side is virtually impossible to mount properly, unless you extend the wires all the way to the back, and even then it's iffy. If you have the slim ballasts, I mounted it LITERALLY underneath the headlight. See: If you guys got XenonDepot stuff, I'm to assume that you have their ultra slim ballasts? Be careful, those have an odd history of failure rates. |

Look up the ballast model number in their forums. That's all I'm saying. Didn't say it to discourage you all, but their older, larger ballasts (the one I had in my other car) was put through snow, rain, etc. with no adverse affects to the ballasts. All I'm saying is to be wary of the problem. On the plus side, you can also mount those slim ballasts where I installed mine.

My 2 Cents
I'm a new member. Just bought my Si yesterday. I have been reading some of the conversations in this thread and wanted to add some stuff. First, I have installed HID conversion kits on my previous three vehicles. (2001 BMW 328, 2004 Civic Coupe, and 2006 Nissan Frontier). All three used different bulbs and the Frontier had dual hi/lo beams. So, I have some experience with these kits and figuring out the best ways to make them work. I took out the kit from my Frontier to put in my Si, and I also kept the 9006 bulbs that I used in my '04 Civic.
My first impression is that this tutorial is much more complicated than it needs to be. The only thing a novice needs to know is how to replace the stock low beam bulbs. First of all, there are decent instructions in the owners manual. You just pull back the plastic in the front wheel wells and that gives you access to the low beams. The rest of the work is finding good places to mount the ballasts and the ignitors on either side of the car. All in all, it doesn't really matter how you decide to do it, I just thought I would suggest a way that might be a little quicker. I have some good experience installing these kits, and through trial and error I have become pretty efficient. Feel free to ask me any questions regarding install or even general questions about HID kits. ______________________________________________ "Rule #76: No excuses. Play like a champion." |

My kits sitting at home it just arrived. I'm going to head back this weekend (from university). I was thinking of installing it, but damn I'm starting to think it's a bit hard. Also all the talk about them failing, being illegal, getting pulled over is a bit worrying. Starting to doubt that I should of got them. I got the 6500k xenon depot. You guys think I should just get some shop to install it for me. I live in B.C canada does anyone no of any shops that would install them, and for how much?

I haven't done it yet, but I'm about to. By just looking, it appears as if taking the battery out and moving the radiator overflow over will allow plenty of room to get to the low beam on the driver's side. I believe taking the wheel off the passenger side and pulling the inner fender plastic back would be the quickest on the passenger side. IDK, I shall see....
