I have mad a thread in Mechanical Problems thread and I made this thread because my first gear after I installed the Mugen Quick shift feels like its in the 3rd gear spot.

IN 1st GEAR: (Doesn't it look like it's in 3rd?)

IN NEUTRAL: (You can see its to the right a little bit.)

A member on these boards showed me a real picture of the Mugen Quick Shift and it has a bend in it... How come mine doesn't. I quoted what the guy posted in my thread.

This is a picture from Jrotax for sale thread.

As you can see, the picture below shows the Mugen Si short shifter, and the shifter actually curve a bit to the driver side compare to the one you have that only go up straight, that's reason why your shifter is bit off looking.

btw, the kings motorsport mugen short shifter look like it was originally design for the FD2 civic type r which the driver side on the right side.
What can be done about this, becuase I am not satisfied with this.

I wish someone would come in here and explain the differerences between the two. I too wonder about the % difference in shift throw. I just know that it has made VTEC shifting almost foolproof. The shifter goes into gear much more positively.
AEOTECH discovered the true difference between this Mugen SS and the USDM Mugen Si SS.

Worst part was that Kings Motorsport didn't really mention any of these thing that may be an issue to some peoples before advertising or selling the parts that I know of.

God I am glad I managed to buy the USDM Mugen SI shifter. Yeah it's supposed to have a bend like the stock one. Else it's gonna be mustang style crooked.

to those who already have this installed: how big of an issue is this really? I just got mine in the mail, but don't want to install it if theres a possibility that I'd be better off returning it. I wouldnt think that being to right a couple inches would be that bad though. What's the consensus?

I've driven cars with crooked shifters, and if you adjust to it at worst it's a minor visual flaw.

I noticed this too after installing it. But to be honest with you its not that bad. If you're anal about everything the small visual difference of it not sitting flush in the middle you probably wont like it. But shifting is much more precise, and a shorter throw so I could care less. The better feel I have driving out weighs the fact that it sits off center. My only complaint is that going into reverse I usually bump the passengers leg since it sits a bit more to the right in the center console but i did that with the stock shifter assembly as well.

^^ wow I can't believe you guys pay top dollar for a mugen branded product and think its ok that the reseller has not mentioned a critical detail: one is for a type R and one is for a USDM civic.

I would be pretty pissed if it was me. I had the USDM mugen quick shifter and was never happier, but I don't think I could bare to live with a crooked shifter knowing I paid 200 bucks USD for something that is suppose to be perfect in fit, form and function.

Well they better do something about this. Or they should have listed it.

This is rediculous.

Last time I buy stuff from there if they don't take it back.

Plus on the reciept I got from them it says Mugen Quick Shift, Civic SI 06+. Wouldn't you understand that as USDM?

While I can see the basis for your argument, I bought the shifter assembly knowing it was not the USDM one (from this thread, no notification on KMS's site) and still have no regrets. I bought it for pure functionality, and it continues to exceed my expectations in that department compared to the stock shifter assembly so I am happy with my purchase. And technically this shifter assembly is still a bolt on piece that requires no modification of any kind. I guess at the end of the day it's in the eye of the beholder.

^ well, like i said. Kings should of mentioned this issue before selling it, because not everyone will know that this SS is actually design for the JDM Civic Type R. Yes it will still work with USDM Civic Si, but it will be a little bit off.

I got your PM, but I wanted to post so everyone has the info.

First off, I'm sorry you're unsatisfied with the Mugen product and we will take your shifter back. Just PM me your order info. Did you contact anyone here about returning the shifter?

Secondly, someone mentioned fit and function - the shifter does fit and according to most of the posts on this thread, performs quite well. As for a disclaimer (per the owner) we did add "As used in the Mugen Civic RR" to the description on our site.

No I didn't contact anyone about returning this item yet. I thought I'd contact you first and then phone.

I guess you'll PM me information on what I got to do to send it back?

First of, I would like to note that the mugen shifter posted by King Motorsports was not perfect in fit form AND function. All three should be fulfilled or else made note of by the reseller to outline where any problems might occur.

That being said, the above response is EXACTLY the type of response that I would expect from a reputable reseller. There was a mistake and they are more than willing to rectify it for anyone unhappy. +1 for King Motorsports.

Points of interest on resellers response:

1) Willingness to help
2) No bashing on potential customers raising concerns or to the original poster who had a problem
3) Professional response with a disclaimer now on the site for future reference

This is more than I can say for some other sponsors we have on the site who respond in a very unprofessional manor to any critisism of their products of any kind.

Way to go King Motorsports...I have not done business with you guys yet, but I am very impressed by the actions you guys took!

I am a bit irked with shifter fitment. But I've done business with King a couple of times. And their customer service is always spot on. They're definitely one of the greatest vendor on this site.

yeah, based on past experiences with them, i think it was an honest mistake. i mean almost all the products they sell are direct from japan (dang japanese instructions included), so it would make sense logically that it would be a true mugen part, for the type r. most if it not all mugen stuff is not built for us, thats why we pay the big $$ for it - to feel like we are ballers.
anyway, i think i will keep mine even if doesnt fit perfectly. i ordered it on a monday night and got it by thursday morning with ground shipping. so either king is awesome or ups is awesome.

Don't get me wrong, I'm leaving them good feedback, just if I'm spending that kind of money, I'm getting what I paid for.

+1 for King Motorsports being amazing. Thanks guys.

I thought I had read something about how Its originally designed for japenese cars,,,, which the driver is on the other side of the car....so it leaning towards the right is correct for them but off for us.....

I could be completely wrong about this but it dosent really matter to me because I am getting one next week (fingers crossed)
