Hello all... new 08 SI owner reporting in...

Hey Guys, name's Steve, I recently moved to Austin, TX from Hawaii, where I was stationed in the Marines. I had a pretty sweet lifted 06 tacoma that was maxxed out in options, $4K in ICE, 33" BFG AT, 3" suspension lift etc etc anyways I get here to texas and rolled it the first week I had it. Got it fixxed, but the gas milage sucked. I drive 40+ miles a day now, and suddenly that 14mpg that didn't seem like a problem on a freaking island was a big deal. So yesterday I bought a new 08 civic SI coupe. I'll post pics in one or two days, the tint was installed today and is still curing, a couple places look bad, when it's good I'll take some good shots.

I test drove a 2008 GTI, a used 2005 g35 Coupe and a 2008 MS3 before deciding on the civic.

The GTI was actually really nice, it shifted well, the engine seemed to have a decent ammount of torque at any RPM. My favorite feature though was the steering wheel which if you've sat in one, you know it rocks. It's made for driving. Unfortunately with the autobahn package and everything, it just seemed to price out pretty high, and that's the consensus I've gotten from browsing the net around a bit.

The 2005 G35 I test drove was becasue I found one for pretty cheap on the net, and it was being sold at a toyota dealer where I would get a real good trade on my truck. Unfortunately it had been ABUSED! It had scrapes and dings and dents, I guarantee the previous owner raced it. The tranny vibrated, the driver seat was torn and the check engine light was on. That didn't stop me from tearing up and down the nearby highway just for fun for a few mins, but basically the car needed too much work, and upon reasearching, they actually don't get that great of mileage... even the 350Z they are based on seems to get a couple mpg higher in real world driving, as per my internet searchings.

The MS3 was a dream drive, really fun, torque down low, dare I say that felt like a good size V6. However Equipped the way I wanted one, with the GT package and all it still came out to be pretty high, plus the dealers here were not trying to discount their 2008.5 MS3s at all (rightfully so, i'm not saying anything against them) Also, with lower 18-25mpg estimates, I wouldn't save a lot on gas over my truck.

I had never actually driven the new Civic SI, I headed to a local dealer and turns out they were a Honda/Toyota/Hyundai Dealer. I loved the SI, I drove it and enjoyed the way it handled. The seats are really nice and reminded me of the nice ones in the MS3, with really good bolsters. I was gonna hold off, as the trade in was a bit low on my truck, but a Toyota rep came over when he saw my truck, we all talked and I traded it into the toyota side of the dealer basically and got about $500-$1000 more than I was hoping for it, plus saved about $1100 in taxes due to trading it in. That gave me an awesome down payment so I signed the paperwork. Went in and had the windows tinted, and I was off.

I love my new Civic, It'll save me a good ammount on gas $ since I'm in college now (even if it is on the government's dime, Sergeants don't make THAT much). I have 100 miles on it already and am enjoying it more and more. I think it'll be a bit harder to rollover than my truck. :) (hopefully!!)

That said, I flipped my toyota doing 65mph, it landed back on the wheels and all I got was a tiny scratch on my face and arm. To top it off, I opened the hood, and the negative terminal was disconnected. I hooked it back up and me and the tow truck driver DROVE it onto the tow truck flatbed. How's that for durability???

I'll miss my truck cause it was my dream vehicle and my present to myself after my iraq deployment, but I couldn't justify $400+ a month in gas.

Anyways I've already learned a lot from perusing these forums, I look foward to learning a ton more about my new car, and meeting some other cool people.

Sincerely,

Steve M

S/F

Nice, my roommate has an 07 Tacoma dual cab TRD 4x4 and we both purchased our cars at the same time. We switch cars every now and then for whatever reasons and he always comments on how much fun my car is. Also, driving his big truck makes me appreciate the "tightness" and lightness of the Si.
