HDR images, pls fill me in...

OK, can someone please fill me on on how to take and process HDR images, they are images that have HIGH contrast, morelike that found in magazines. i tried taking some night shots in the exact same position with differant shutter speeds, like one at 10 sec. one at 20 and one at 30. then went to photoshop(CS2) and going to >file>Automate>Merge to HDR, selected the images then clicked go and it all turned out the same, it all looked like the 30 sec imaga, basicly the brightest one.

Is there something else that im missing???

I have a Cannon digital reble.(older one 1st or 2nd gen.)

Please give me some pointers?, is there somethig with the apature size? i dont know? oh i only have two lenses, nothing specal, no macro no mice no widangle... just a telaphoto 300x and the 55 that came with it.

porta, first, you probably will have better lock with this if posted in the Photography section. But you are in luck. I will drop the littl bit of knowledge I have in an edit to this pot, wait one.

*EDIT* Ok, I just realized I am way to tired to really explain it all, but basically night shots dont work to well with HDR. Dusk shots with work very good, as well as dawk shots, but not dark.

This website will give you more information about HDR than you can possibly imagine.
How to Create High Dynamic Range Images - - PopPhotoSeptember 2006
Check it out. The best thing to do with HDR is experiment. Take a the same shot at all speeds 1/10 - 1/2000, load them onto photoshop, and experiment with deleting different ones.

Good luck

Best results are outside shots, with light clouds. They turn out real nice at dawn and dusk.
