dude the alternator will do its job regaurdless of the condition of the engine internals. Just because the radio pulls more power from the alt. doesnt put more stress on the pully of it.

Turning on the radio will have no effect on your engine break in.

Do what the manual says. If you have any problems down the road, tell your service manager you did what the book said to and have the warrenty cover it.

After doing lots of research, I've decided that breaking it in slowly will not hurt for sure. That's the only thing that i can be sure about.

So I will be taking it easy for first 1,000 kms, and then it's VTEC time!

Can't go wrong with this.

I guess you shouldn't change oil so soon, cause from what I've read Hond puts a special break-in oil (thicker), designed for new engines.

Right guys?

As for going easy the first 100km/500km, there is no concrete answer / procedure. So, take it easy.....

LOL the oil companies must LOVE you with your 4 oil changes before 2000 miles thing. Thats just crazy. Its a car with a warranty, drive it, if something goes wrong, have it fixed.

Haha some of the suggestions on here really made me chuckle. As previously posted just follow what your manual says, not the opinion of other individuals. The safest way to break in a car is almost always going to be the manufacturers way.

I've had mine 2 weeks and have a thousand miles on it......

I drove it like i stole it after 30 miles or so. .....

I bought the car to drive it...not put around in it.

if it breaks, i'll fix it. no biggie.

lol @ the free reving and turn the lights on bullshit.

the way i break in my motors are as follows...
use shitty oil, warm the car up until the fan kicks on.
rip it in first and second without hitting vtak (shift at 5.5k). leave it second and let the motor slow the car down to idle. this way, the engines vaccumm sucks out all the shit inside the motor. do this a couple times in 3rd. what this does is seat the rings so there is no blow by. if you baby the car, the rings dont really seat because theres no force pushing them agenst the walls. thats why there is a crosshatch in the cylinder walls. the purpose is to wear down the ring to make sure they are perfect with the cylinder walls. the way i explained has been proven more effective then the pussy way.

This is my 4th brand-new car, and I'm driving it easy - at least for now. Every once in a while I kick it up to 4k RPMs or so, but mostly I'm just driving around town, nice and easy. I just vary the RPMs a lot, do a little engine braking (but nothing that tachs it up too far), easy on the brakes when possible. All of my previous new cars have run just fine, with proper engine power.

Granted, on my test drive, when the car had 39 miles on it, I tached it up to a little over 5k, to see how much power it had during what I would call "normal" use :)

We'll see in several years what my oil/gas consumption and power look like, but I'm not really going to worry about it.

I raced my freinds rx8 the first night i got it, and went 120+ . Break in is overrated my track times are identical to those who went thru all the break in crap. And as far as longevity is concerned, who cares, i not permanently keeping this car. I love my car but I see S2k in the future.

You know, out of everything I've read on this thread, and elsewhere, I've come across the same info, just with slightly different variables (miles, revs, etc.).

1.) Take it easy for a a little bit (a day, half a day, w/e)

2.) Drive it like you stole it for a little bit (a day, half a day, w/e)

3.) Change the oil (petrol, synth, w/e)

4.) Drive how you want to the rest of the cars life

I'm pretty sure we can all (or ALMOST all of us) agree on this basic premise. I've seen people arguing over TINY variations, like 20miles. That's just rediculous. Let's just get a BASIC premise established FIRST, then debate little differences. Sound good?
