Chronicles of the Habanero God
Chronicles of the Habanero God
Winter 2005-2006I cruise into my nearest stealership, after visiting several others disappointed and ask if they have any Rallye Red Civic Si's with navigation in stock. The rep shakes her head and states that the only navi Civic they have is a Habanero Red Civic. It has no add-ons and the only mark up is a 5000 "market price" mark up. I tell her I hate that color and am only interested in Rallye Red. I hand her my number and walk out. A week goes by. Every day after that day, they call asking me if I want the HRP Civic sitting in their show room. I finally go back in after being harassed for a week, mostly because I still couldn't find ANY Rallye Reds. They let my dad test drive it, and he LOVES it. After the test drive, it has seven miles on it. I tell her I'll buy it if they take off the mark up, and she goes to speak with her manager. After about two hours of haggling back and fourth they take 3k off the mark-up, and I'm sick of playing price wars with these people. I start to walk out with my dad and the guy asks me if I'd be willing to buy it for 26k OTD. By today's standards, anything above MSRP is a rip-off, but back then when demand was high and Civics with navi and no add-ons were hard to come by, I was sold. I took her home. ![]() ![]() Spring 2006Bought my Volk GT-7's, and thanks to MJH Sound, managed to get my car featured in a tech article for Super Street involving the install and review of the Magnaflow Exhaust System for our Civics. Back then, my Volks were gorgeous and few Civic owners had rims. Now it's pretty common to see Volks on our cars. Oh well. I still love the exhaust just as much as the day I bought it. The sound is a low growl, but is also very conservative. The appearance is similar to a stock exhaust so it doesn't attract too much attention, but anyone who knows our car will know that it isn't stock. My car was on it's way. ![]() ![]() ![]() Summer 2006Took my car to the beach. Went to various meets. Paid off my car! She's finally mine. Time to mark my territory. Added my custom license plate and custom made my own frame.![]() ![]() Fall 2006Took my Civic to various meets around So Cal. This is where I met all the awesome So Cal members of 8thcivic.com. Now I'm not usually the type to just go out and meet new people, but Shglbmx was more than friendly enough for the both of us. He helped me overcome my social anxiety and after a few meets, I knew most of the regular So Cal members and had no problem meeting new faces. My baby met some new friends too. She was shy at first too, but after a while she fit right in! R.I.P. Slicks ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Winter 2006-2007Took her to the desert to test out the Megan Coilovers that Shglbmx so graciously provided me. She finally got to stretch her legs out for the first(and last) time. Her and I spent the day with Shglbmx and his Si(even though it looks like n LX right now). It was a blast, and I don't regret getting Megans one bit. The coilovers are 32-way adjustable, so I had no problem making these babies take turns like no other. Letting her fly down the desert at 100+ mph speeds was fun too. I really got to see how well our cars can perform, and I wasn't disappointed one bit. After cleaning the f*ck out of her, I vowed to NEVER do that again. I let her see the Signature Suites at the MGM Grand for new years.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Spring 2007I got a little mod happy, and decided to enter my car in a show along with Albert(Ayenoc), and Dan(Shglbmx) and his team. A Seibon carbon fiber hood, Seibon carbon fiber trunk, and a ViS concept wing later, my car looked pretty riced out. Went to more meets, met more friends, and put a rush on getting as much done as possible before the big show. I have to say, if you ever get the chance to show your car with your friends at a Hot Import Nights, do it! It was a blast having so many people come by and take pictures with my car. It was great seeing all the 8thcivic members come by too! I didn't win any awards, but I wasn't expecting to beat out the other heavily modified Hondas there as it was. By the end of the night, I was exhausted, but I loved every second of it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Summer 2007One more Hot Import Night show later, along with some more toys added to my car, I was feeling pretty burnt out. My original intent for this car was for it to be a tasteful car with light mods because it was my daily driver. Well, that certainly didn't happen. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I still loved the way it stood out above the crowd and got all the attention, but I needed something a bit more showy, and I couldn't obtain that with this car. So I went in search of a new car that I could appreciate and enjoy as much as my civic, and I came across a listing in the NSX prime forums... ![]() ![]() This baby comes with HRE 17/18" wheels, a complete audio system, Tein RA coilovers, an 02 conversion, Gruppe-M sideskirts, a new paint job, and new leather interior. It's flawless in every way, and performs like no other car I've ever driven This mid-engine beast pulls you back into your seat, blows your eardrums out, and catches the eye of every passer by on the road. What more could a guy ask for? I went to check it out on Saturday, got my car sold on Sunday, and on Monday, I was approved for my loan and my insurance company gave me a fair quote. I was 100% ready to go through with this car... or so I thought. 10:30 a.m. - Tuesday, July 10th 2007I walk in to work and start my opening proceedures and the owner is there waiting for me. Last Friday my cashier made the mistake of being $150 under during his shift, I couldn't find the problem and left it was it was for him to inspect. He couldn't find anything wrong. This was the fourth time in the past two months that my register was off by more than $100 dollars, and I'm pretty sure most of you can figure out what happens next. I was terminated. Now i have no job, I have to refund the guys who bought my car their deposit, and I have to tell the owner of the NSX, that I won't be buying it after all. Today is Wednesday, and I'm starting my job hunt. My friend owns an Electircal Contracting company. He said he'd let me apply through his apprenticeship program, but it was nothing short of hard labor working from 6 in the morning to 6 at night. The pay is decent, but I've got no experience and he said that I probably won't enjoy the job at all if I do meet all the requirements. The other stipulation is that recently I've met a girl that I'm very interested in. I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm madly in love with her, but she's definitely a girl worth making sacrifices for. She likes my Civic and thinks that purchasing an NSX is a horrible investment whose only purpose for being on this Earth is to let people know that I'm better than them. She's pretty much right about the NSX. I don't want it for it's GREAT mileage or the tons of cargo space. I want it because it's a bad-ass toy that gets attention and stares everywhere it goes. So now I'm back in business, but instead of having a secure and EASY job where I'd make a comfortable living and be able to go to school, I'm stuck with the possibility of having a VERY difficult and strenuous job where I'll still be able to afford the NSX, but I won't be able to go to college, and I definitely won't make the girl very happy. For those of you too lazy to read all that, I can choose between either: a) An awesome girl, the ability to finish up college, and my Civic. Also - shitty job. b) Being alone, no college, but the sickest NSX on the planet. No job, yet. So I stand at a major crossroads in my life. I know a ton of you will be disappointed if I choose the Civic over the NSX, because the car is gorgeous, fast, and perfect in almost every way imaginable, but as it sits, I'm still 50/50 on where to go with this decision. Any feedback and or comments are more than welcome here. |

You dumb ass, what is there to think about, NSX! NSX!!!
![]() But seriously it depends on your career path - if it's something you must have a degree for, then by all means finish college - if you're going to get a degree and then not need it, then go NSX. I know I got a business marketing degree from now one of the better business schools (NC State) but ended up going into film when I realized how badly the business world blew and needed no degree at all but college was a blast AND the shit I learned in my classes apply very much so in promoting myself as a film editor, freelancing and marketing myself as a boutique place for editing and color correction for feature films so I can't actually complain much at all about college, it's what you make of it... NSX@!! |

You'll get the NSX eventually, but sex is better than any car. ![]() Seriously, choice A is the better investment. I'd rather have a decent car, a great partner and a future in my life (college) than nothing but a sick car. Yeah, job would suck, but you deal with it for a while then find a better one!! |

Although the NSX may be most appealing to you right now (god who wouldn't want to own one of those beauties), is it worth it in the long run? From what you are saying, owning the NSX will basically cost losing your comfortable job, girlfriend and even time. Think about it terms of the long run. It will pay off if you are able to finish college and at the same time being able to retain what means the most to you. It may seem that I am "preaching" but coming from a college student with past similar situations, it would be wise that you think about the long run. GL with your decisions!

How many years have you completed and how many do you to go? The choice would probably lean towards A. Life would be pretty meaningless if all you did was work for your car and neglect your social life (and possible future career and jobs). I would go with A. College will open a lot of doors for you and it's a sacrifice for something potentially bigger than one asset.

The opportunity to earn a degree in any college is better then any car in the world. This opportunity will give you things in life that you could never have achieved with out it. DO the right thing stay in school, be with the girl, and love your civic. And find a different job, its not like you have to do that shitty job.
I said my piece. Good luck!! |

Cars come and go my friend. Nothing can replace an education regardless of what your ultimate career path may be. A degree in hand can open many doors for you down the road...........a car cannot! Companionship is something that a car cannot offer. My two cents is for you to keep your current car, finish school and pursue this relationship. The world is full of exotic cars that once you are finished with school you may be able to buy handfuls of them. As far as the job is concerned, consider your bills (you said your car is paid off right?) and if you really need to take this one. I understand your friend is trying to help, but if it is going to be too strenuous and not what you are interested in then try to find something else that you feel will suite you until you graduate. Good luck with whatever you decide because ultimately only you know what will suite you best.

mmm...what a tasty burger

I think this one is easy to figure out.....you already have a sweet sweet ride, now you have a chick(which seems to dig you since she thinks about your future and well being) and school is super important nowadays.
So yeah, you know what to do.

NSX is tempting, but I think I would roll with option A. There has got to be a loop hole though. There has to be a way to get the NSX, keep the girl, and go to college. There is always somthing, the only thing that I see in life as un avoidable is death.

Did the cashier get terminated as well? I would hope so if he was stealing money...
Like a lot of others have been saying, I'd say stick with the Si, get through school, keep the girl and once you get a nice income get an NSX as a weekend car. ![]() |

This is an easy one; screw the NSX my friend. That education will help you make money, not be a money pit like the NSX. Take the civic, the girl & the education and you can buy a brand new NSX in 5-10 years. Delayed gratification is one of the hardest lessons to learn in this world.
A car is NOT a financial investment. It depreciates the minute you drive it off the lot. Your education will appreciate your pay scale. |

a.... a.... and a.
Even though the car is beautiful, it's not wise. A car is literally the worst "investment" you can make. It does nothing but depreciate the longer you own it, and then where will you be? You'll be driving around an older nsx that may look hot, but have no real "career or job". I'd also have to say that if a girl wasn't cool with you driving your civic, let alone a stock civic, I'd throw her to the curb. Sounds like she's just in for the "looks, attention, etc". High maintenance FTL. I'd tell you to complete school, and get into what really is going to make you happy career wise. If the opportunity presents itself later in life to own a NSX it was meant to be. Maybe this all happened for a reason. Regardless, I'm sorry to hear about your job situation. I'd be ready to strangle the other employee who was working on your register. Maybe if the theft continues, you can stay in contact with your boss.... and they'll realize that it wasn't you. You never know. |
