Total Newb.

But not a new driver; will be getting my Si in a week. Since I'm a dad, I'm not much of a tuner these days, etc. Yet. Some questions:

a) is the iPod kit worth it, even with the Nav system? My instinct and research says no.
b) which cars would you absolutely not even attempt a stop light burst with a stock sedan (I'm not really prone to this, but just in case :))?
c) which do come up to you, and you just have to chuckle?
d) what are some absolute mods you would do on an 07 sedan?
e) drive-by-wire: is there a non-warranty-breaking way to smooth this out?
f) Is AMSOIL really that great for trannys?

Any other thoughts?

Thanks.

a) dunno--dont have an ipod
b)alot of them
c)alot of them
d)intake for the sound mostly
e)no, if your getting an 07 you shouldnt even notice it
f)thats what everyone says...i would change it anyway because probably 75% of transmissions from the factory are overfilled with fluid, and this is not good

of btw welcome to the site

a. just use the aux input.
b.
c. older model cars
d.shifter cable bushings, short shifter, lowering springs, rear sway bar, performance tires.
e. no problems.
f. changing the tranny fluid to something better makes your shifts crisp and you wont have the third or second grinding problem. you can use gm synchromesh friction modified which you can buy at any gm dealer or you can order amsoil online.

Thanks. Also, I meant to put this in Getting Started.

I meant, are there any other tuner kids that pull up next to you, and you just know you'd smoke them?

As for tint, the wife is not into it (it's not hers, dammit! :P). Does it really hide the VIN, and how?

Other stealth performance ideas?

Thanks a million!

no it doesnt hide the vin. the vin is below the black part of the window so it cant be put behind tint.

The Si in Sedan or Coupe form is a very fun car to drive but I have driven a lot of cars in my time and it is not an off the line rocket. It does have nice accelleration but I would never race anyone at the stoplight because I know that I would get spanked about 8 out of 10 times. Okay, Maybe I wouldn't since I am running an Injen Cai, Vibrant 2.5 inch Exhaust, High Flow Cat and the 75 shot of Nitrous doesn't hurt either but in stock form I was barely able to win against a Pontiac Grand Prix (Just regular 6 cylinder not the Supercharged version). I enjoy the handeling of the car more than the straight line performance. I added the Progress Rear Sway bar and the HFP lowering Springs and that made all the difference in the world in how the car handled. After that the TWM short shifter and bushings were an excellent addition which makes shifting much more precise and a lot quicker without any grinding.
I did replace the Tranny fluid with Royal Purple Synchromax which did smooth out the shifts quite a bit. The transmission is overfilled from the factory and had almost 3 quarts in there where it really should only hold just under 2 quarts. So I would change the fluid especially if you have grinding problems like so many. I personally never did have an issue with the tranny but I did change the fluid because it was overfilled and wanted to go with a better overall quality fluid. I was going to go with Amsoil but since I didn't want to wait I bought Royal Purple at my local Pep Boys.

I am using the Aux jack for my I Pod and it works Great. No need to go with the expensive and not worth it Interlink that Honda offers. I wish I would have gone with a Navi because I think Honda does have a nice factory unit but they didn't have one at the time I went shopping for the Si. I actually had to go to 5 different dealerships and nobody had one in stock. Then right after I was about to give up I did spot one coming off a truck that wasn't spoken for and I grabbed it before anyone else could.
But now I wish I would have waited for a Navi. Oh well, I guess I can always add one later or go with the Panasonic Aftermarket ones.

Welcome to the 8th and have fun modding your ride

Thanks, I guess more important is ramp merging, lane passing at higher revs, i.e., 'real-world driving' than stop light BS. Thoughts... dare I say another vehicle with similar specs? I really came to Hondas because all my friends love theirs, and the mileage is unbeatable compared to turbos, and it's plenty sporty.

On my short list were the MZ3 and GLI/GTI or WRX, but you know, with the gas money saved, I could put it away in short-term stock and make tons more money to buy one that way!

A) i don't know- dont have an ipod
B) alot... just go by looks.... if you feel you got a chance then go for it
C) the best chuckle i had was a Geo Metro... lol nuff said
D) A couple of the other guys gave you longer lists of good mods to put on it you have the money. But if you don't have a whole lot of extra $$, the mod that I HAD to have was the lip kit. It makes the car not look so stock anymore. Following closely after that would be wheels, tint, and maybe performance mods if youre into that.
E) what's that?
F) Ive never heard of it....
