My friend was using my 30d in auto mode. Generally speaking you just need a semi slow shutter (around 1/30) and low lighting (dusk).

Drive your car at about 50, get someone to drive another car along side, and have someone in the other car taking pictures. It helps to do it at dusk so that you can use a slow enough shutter speed to show the motion.
