A story of how one civic became two.
Just over a year ago my brother was heading off into a new world; college. He was as excited as the family was and couldn't wait. My brother is one of the most humble kids I know, and I hoped he would be getting a graduation gift of a car in the near future.
Well, my grandma had just purchased a brand new 2010 Honda Civic EX Just before the Summer had started (this was in 2010). Unfortunately, however, she was deemed not able to drive by the doctors after she had received her car. So her car sat in the garage untouched, with 10 miles on the odometer for months. I remember seeing it with the dust settled on it, a shame I thought, a new car gone to waste. Fast forward to June 2, 2010 we had been out of school for a few days now. My dad had gone on a business trip and would be gone for a few weeks. When he came home he showed up with this; ![]() ![]() ![]() It was awesome, it was for my brother, and it made me jealous. After-all, he was getting my Grandma's brand new car. But my brother was the most humble kid I knew, and trusted my sister and me to drive his beloved car whenever he was back in from school. He wasn't the modding type, he liked what he got and kept it at that. Fast forward 6 months to December 2010, my brother is home on break. One night my sister asks to take my brother's car out, and he let's her reluctantly. Keep in mind, my sister has backed into the garage door twice (while the car was in the garage), been rear ended (slammed on the brakes, car behind her didn't have enough room), backed into people's cars, you know the story. Anyway back on topic, my sister was out with her boyfriend driving my brothers car and she's sitting at a light waiting to make a left turn when given the opportunity. She notices a space between her and a jeep and attempts to make it, the EX is no SI. She had anticipated more acceleration from the grocery getter but it wasn't enough. And that was the end of that: ![]() My brother was crushed upon arrival of the news that his car was totaled. Anyway, we thought it would all be sorted out and insurance would handle the losses. Unfortunately, this was not the case. 2 months went by as my dad went back and forth with the insurance company, fighting over the coverage of the vehicle. The debate was that the car was still covered under my grandmother's insurance. We kept the old plates, and my siblings and me were insured as drivers. Well, what we didn't know was that my Aunt (dad's sister) removed the insurance without telling my dad and therefore the car was being driven uninsured. Insurance won, they covered the jeep that my sister turned in front of but the civic was a total loss. We sold it for $5,086 in parts. There was a long period where my brother went to school without a car, he didn't mind, he was humble. My sister and I, on the other hand, were still in anticipation of a car for our senior year/college. Fast forward to August of 2011. I had been doing some heavy research on a 1999 Red Mustang, stick shift, it was perfect and would only cost me a couple months savings (a coworker was helping me out). I was just about to buy it when my dad claimed he was looking for cars again. I thought he was bluffing, he did this all the time. Well, he wasn't. August 18th my dad purchased two FG1 Honda Civics in Alabaster Silver Metallic. One for me and my sister (we're twins), one for my brother. ![]() ![]() We were beyond ecstatic. To this day my brother has yet to modify his car. I can't say the same, I used my savings that were headed toward the mustang and invested in parts I wanted on the civic. Mod list below ![]() And that's the story of how one civic became two... ![]() My car: Engine/Performance: K&N Short Ram Intake with Heat Shield GReddy Spectrum Elite Axleback Exterior: 16" Konig Swurve rims (upgrading soon) Rear tail light tint with reverse cutout 35% tint all around w/ 5% 6in strip on front. I.C.E. Alpine SPS-600c speakers JL Audio 12" W7 w/ custom enclosure Alpine MRP-M500 amplifier And that's all for now... the list keeps growing. I plan on lowering it, getting 17" rims, SI wing, and lots of other miscellaneous interior work. Hope you guys enjoyed, I got a little bored. It's a slow Saturday. ![]() Haha, yeah. I mostly drive the car, but it is "50%" hers. It does scare me to death. Trying to figure out a way to talk to my insurance about coverage on the aftermarket stuff. Thanks man! Yeah I'd love a mustang, probably will end up picking one up after college. Last edited by RobbyC; 01-07-2012 at 08:56 PM. |
