PWRDByAdobo: 2006 Honda Civic Si ASM "Grace"

Ok, figured I did one for Aria (2005 Honda Civic Si NHBP) that I should finally make one for Grace. Pictures will come soon as more and more mods develop. Anyways, check back often! I check all of yours!!

I have to pay tribute to Aria. She was the first car that I had since I refined my taste in what truly was "Tuner Culture". After 2 botched attempts at modding my DA and EJ due to lack of finances and bad judgement, I came upon this "epiphany". So here are the good pics and the final pics:

I had a lot of fun driving that car. Really felt that she was and expression of me. Unfortunately, we were driving 10E on the sunny Sunday morning of June 4, 2006 and a guy in a light blue late 90's Explorer decided to get back onto the freeway after trying to take the Grand Ave. exit. He swirved back in and slammed on his breaks to avoid the grass barrier. I managed to veer left to avoid him, but as I tried to straighten the car out, the rear slid left and sent the car sliding on the freeway. I tried to counter steer to bring it facing forward instead of towards the barrier, but it wasn't enough. She jumped onto the barrier, hit her rear driver rim against the curb and sent us flying into the air in a roll. From what people told me, it was 2 flips in the air and then landed on the passenger side. I landed on the onramp to the freeway that comes from Grand Ave. After what seemed like hours sitting sideways, the car happened to slam back down on all 4 wheels.

That was a very sad day for me. Anyways, enough of that. Here are the pictures that I thought were significant to show everyone:

Final Mod List:
18"/7.5"/48offset 5Zigen MK-5 HyperBlack
225/40/18 Hankook Radial K106
Tein S-Tech Lowering Springs (EP3 Specific)
AEM V2 (EP3 Specific)
DC Shorty Header (EP3 Specific)
Apexi World Sport II Cat Back (EP3 Specific)
Buddy Club Short Shifter
McCulloch 12,000K HID Kit
JDM EK/DC 5 speed shift knob
UKDM EP3 Shift Boot
UKDM Front and rear Red H's
UKDM Union Jack Emblem

Not much, but only had a little more than a year.
RIP 2005 Honda Civic Si NHBP "Aria"
April 11, 2005 - June 4, 2006

So that'll do it for past stuff.

June 14, 2006

Here's my first FG2 encounter story. Funny story actually:

We went to Acura AND Honda the day before. My rep at Honda, Mr. Paul Ortiz (great guy), sold us Aria and my brothers 2005 Civic LX 4dr in April of 2005 one after another. So my dad and I were talking and decided to go see Paul first since he'd probably hook us up better. After some long deliberation, they would not budge. My dad said he would do it at more than $450/mo for 48 months. They were not moving from $550 so we went to Acura for the Type-S. They hit my price range of $450/mo for 48months. Unfortunately, the store manager had left before the papers were signed and only he could allow for the Type-S to be sold under invoice.

So the next day, we went back to Acura to pick up the car and the manager was not there again, but the paperwork was finished. Unfortunately they were not able to find it. My dad said that he would pickup my car the next day if I agreed that I could pay the monthly. My rep at Honda calls me and says "What if we did $499/mo but with no alarm?" Needless to say, I immediately handed my dad my cell. We left that Acura dealer that night to pick up Grace. Only 3 miles on the car when I took delivery. It was one of two FG2's there. The other NHBP that was there had been test driven by myself and also atleast one other party the day before (from what I saw). The ASM had just rolled off the truck that day and was just finishing PDI so thus Grace was adopted lol. Here are the pics that I took after we ate at Millies (kind of like a tradition for our family when we get new cars) and I got her into the garage and kicked out my moms 2003 TrailBlazer LS lol.

These were taken in a loading dock at one of my customers locations. I apologize if the pictures are blurry. I was trying to figure out how to use my camera since I never use it. I thought the lighting here was nice...hence the photoshoot.

July 9, 2006

Pictures from a BBQ at FastAutoworks in Arcadia. Got a love and hate relationship with Tuan, the owner, so I don't go there often, but I do say what's up and show up to his things once in a while. The 2005 Acura RSX Type-S my friend Clifton. Buddy of mine that I converted from "G-Ridin'" and "Rice Rollin'" to tuning his car efficiently lol. We're always in competition on who's car is faster. Since the loss of Aria, I've had to start over. I keep explaining that he's pull on me from a drag, but I'll dust him in a corner. He doesn't listen though. You know that "Type-S" mentality. 2005 Honda Civic LX Sedan is my brother Terrence's car. Lastly, the 2002 Honda S2000 is our friend Reshad's car.

August 13, 2006

Installed the HID kit, along with Nokya Hyper Yellow 9005's. The HID's were from Aria, the Nokyas were fresh bought August 11, 2006.

Parts Installed

Sorry for the retarded pose. Was feelin' kinda crazy lol.

September 9, 2006

These were taken courtesy of Andrew's friend on the way to the first Tustin meet we all went to. I also decided to flip my license plate upside down that same morning of the meet because I saw an FG1 at Blockbuster and he explained how to do it.

Parts Installed
Flipped front plate bracket upside down
Removed front plate after 8thCivic people urged it - _ -;

As for actual pics at the meet, I didn't get any, but they're all there in the original thread somewhere.

My boss was being generous last week and decided to buy me my WeatherTech dark window visors last week. They came in right on my birthday. Anyways, I took no time in tearing the box apart and installing them on my car right then and there. It adds a nice look to the car, as well as serves it's function well. OH COME ON!! YOU ALL KNOW WHY YOU GET THOSE VISORS! lol

I was looking through EPHatch and noticed that a friend of mine was selling a Red Sparco 4 Point Cam Lock seatbelt. I thought to myself "SELF! If you bought this, you could be more secure while autocrossing and just in case that 'incident' occurs again". So I called Phil up and told him I would pick it up that night. As soon as I got home, I installed it right away. Nothing really out of expectation. I mean c'mon...it's a 4pt cam lock seatbelt. It's nice.

Was on a service call today and decided to swing by ShowStoppers USA and visit Chuck. Hey I was in the area right? Anyways, decided to grab the Comptech SS while I was there. He only had one left so I definately could not let that slip away! Anyways, after borrowing an allen key from Chuck, I proceeded to install the short shift adapter. Took me not but 15 minutes to install it. Let me tell you, the shifting feel is not only significantly shorter, but exceptionally solid as well. Looking into getting the TWM and CorSport bushings soon.

October 7, 2006

This was the day of the Meguiars meet. Learned a lot of cool things from Mike the Meguiars guy. Met a few people that day including Leyla and Albert. I think Albert thought I was hitting up on Leyla that's why he bee-lined towards us when I said hi. Hahaha. Anyways, we all decided to go to Autobacs after the class. Listen everyone, it was NOT my fault that the 22 was closed and we needed to take a detour. Besides, Mr. Cool Guy with the lambo doors was the one with the NAV! Anyways, bought a helmet that day that matches Grace. For offroad purposes only of course! But I did wear it to the gas station lol.

Parts Installed
Fulmer almost ASM Helmet

*Poor Leyla and Albert...just had to watch the 3 Si's speed off into the sunset...or wherever we were going lol. (I'm the ASM pulling away on the right!)

October 15, 2006

Brought Grace to her first autocross. Also, Tim was there to try out autocrossing. He did pretty well for his first time. I also have to admit that that LSD should have been one of the first mods that I put into my EP3. Anyways, everything went well. Scored decently high. Not bad for a 2900lb boat lol.

**Pictures to come!**

October 19, 2006

Had an itchy clicking finger this day and decided to look on eBay. Found a seller that was selling a JDM EP3 shift knob. Managed to talk him down to $30 bucks if I picked it up the same day. Needless to say, I drove down to his shop (it was in Rosemead so it's on the way home) and picked it up that night. I have to admit, it feels a lot nicer to shift than the stock knob. It's lighter, but in my opinion, it makes my shifting feel more controlled than heavy and cumbersome.

October 20, 2006

Went to San Diego tonight to join Tim and Jimmy at RaceLegal in the parking lot of Qualcomm Stadium. It was my first time at a drag strip so needless to say, there were a couple of foul ups...including our first run where we didn't know how the tree worked and Tim and I just kind of sat there past the bracket lol. So many people are too worried about "looking cool" to their friends. I don't mind telling everyone at 8thCivic that YEAH I FKED UP! YEAH I JUST SAT THERE STARING AT THE TREE WONDERING "Man when's it gonna go green?". Fun night. Unfortunately my 1 minute burnout was not caught on video even though my girlfriend was supposed to be taping...SUPPOSED TO BE! Did keep up with a turbo G35 Coupe MT though.

**Pictures and Vids to come!**

December 16, 2006

Decided to swing by the Tustin meet on the way down to San Diego. It was ok, but already had prior engagements to attend so I didn't stay that long. There are a lot more faces now so it makes me happy to know that 8thCivic is growing. Hopefully the higher price of the car will deter "Rice"

January 10, 2007

Went down yesterday to San Diego for some work so decided to go pick up the rims that Tim and I negotiated. Stock rims, but they had summer tires. Also, I was trading my rims plus cash to Justin for his Tein Super Street suspension. Anyways, I put them in today after I got off work. I'm pretty sure you guys don't need pictures of stock rims on a stock height Si. This is pretty much just for logging purposes.

January 11, 2006

Picked up the Tein SS suspension from Justin yesterday and was quite eager to put them in. I decided to wait until I got home today to put them in. Took us a while to get the suspension in but it's because we had an issue with the top bolts on the rear struts. Partly also because we were pausing to take pictures often (DIY in the making). Anyways, the drop is sick! In my opinion, and a few others, the car looks much better lower. Not only does she look better, but she handles like the original review of the Si...like it's on railing. So far I have not lost traction in this car yet from many different angles, different approaching and cornering speeds, etc.

January 16, 2006

Picked up Gil's intake yesterday. Thanks for the awesome price bro. Took me about 15 minutes to install it using only the tools I had here at work. Believe me, it would have been a lot easier with extensions and such. In any effect, I got it in anyways. The car at sounds like hell is literally opening underneath my hood...in a good way mind you. lol. You can definately feel the difference in mid to high. Lost a little in the low end, but if I'm ever in low end, I'm not pushing that hard anyways. Thanks Gil!

January 20, 2006

As all of you probably already know, we had a meet in Pasadena this weekend. Very interesting...but let me edit this later.

January 21, 2006

Had a little down time while my girlfriend was at work (after getting reamed for not telling her about the intake that I bought off of Gil) so I decided to hit up Tim and see what Mr. Aerospace engineer does on Sundays. Not doing jack! Watching the game (team lost anyways lol). Anyways, he was kind enough to let me back the car into his garage and we worked on installing the Megan 4pt brace. Unfortunately, due to lack of proper tools for even a simple oil change or tire rotation, I proceeded to lift the car on both sides with 2 emergency jacks for our cars. After a popping noise while trying to undo one of the sub frame bolts, Tim decided to go buy jack stands (thanks Tim!). Two beers and a broken hand held foglight later, we finished.

Parts Installed
Megan 4-Point Front Undercar Brace

**Pictures to come!**

*********UPDATE*********
After installing the brace, there was issues regarding a popping noise during hard launches, hard shifting into 2nd, and extra hard braking. With the help of Abraham (scarletSI) and Win Motorsports, I was able to take the brace off during lunch January 24, 2007 using their lift and air tools. Unfortunately, after removing the brace, the problem is still there. If anybody has any clue why this happens, all helpful information would be greatly appreciated. Right now, the only thing I'm assuming is that since the main subframe bolts aren't torqued to spec, but actually harder, it might be causing this issue.

*********UPDATE********* (10/6/2007)
After getting the new wheels on and flipping my horn upside down so water doesn't get in it, I went to torque the subframe bolts to spec. To my surprise, I still get the popping noise from time to time (usually only on wheel hop). Not sure what to do, if you have any ideas, please let me know!

January 27, 2007

Managed to get my hands on some light weight racing lug nuts. Had an issue regarding my stock lug nuts that I wish not to speak of so yeah, just know they look nicer. = ) Anyways, I think it adds a nice look to the stock Si rims.

February 23, 2007

So I decided to help Andrew out with his Progress rear sway bar install on his LX today. Turns out, the dude he bought it from didn't have the brackets for the base coupe installs. After removing his sway, mocking up the new bar and actually trying it on...we realized...DAMN the bushing bracket doesn't fit. Tried searching 8th, tried calling people for help, tried it again and again to no avail. Finally he gave up and gave in to selling me his rear sway...FESHAAAAAW!!!!

Anyways, since it's freezing tonight, I decided to save that install for tomorrow since we will be working on an xB (Progress rear sway, Swift springs, and DC front strut bar courtesy of Abraham at WiN Motorsports) and a Sentra SE-R V-Spec (AEM cold air also courtesy of Abraham at WiN Motorsports). I'll have pics up tomorrow of the sway bar install and of course...group pics lol.

Well we did the install today for my cousin Nathan's xB and my rear sway bar. Unfortunately, our camera woman wasn't feeling very cooperative today so you guys will just have to read. Not going much into detail, the spring install for the xB took about 2 hours or so. Since we needed to take the strut bolts off anyways, we threw on the DC CS2 strut bar. The Swift springs that Abraham from WiN Motorsports suggested are working very well. The car settled at a good rate. We'll see how it works out in the next couple days.

As for Grace, the sway bar install went well. After a couple complications that were easily addressed, we got the sway bar in with little to no effort.

Parts Installed
Progress Rear Sway Bar (22mm)

Final thoughts: The sway bar DEFINATLY increased stability in the vehilce during all types of turns. High speed banks are very stiff and the car suffers from much less understeer than with just the Tein Super Streets alone. I would definately recommend this to anyone looking to increase their cornering ability...ESPECIALLY if you're lowered on ANY type of lowering.

February 28, 2007

So I got quite bored today and decided "Hey fk it, let's install that S2000 push button start!". I wanted to detail the interior but didn't really find the "gusto" for it today, so I'll probably do that tomorrow. I've had this push button start for quite some time now so I figured it was about time to get it in the SOME car.

I ended up taking apart the whole dash (cuz I was curious) and also the front drivers seat to re-mount the buckle to my harness and to try and disable the seat belt check. Unfortunatly, I have no idea how to disable the seatbelt check. I tried to disconnect the set of 3 wires to the OEM buckle, but it ended up disabling the side airbag and drivers front air bag...poop. If anyone can shed some light on this, that would be great. Oh! I took pictures of the other parts (intake, ss adapter, knob, etc) too!!

I need to rep "BATANG CITY JAIL" on this one because I used his wiring diagram. Also 06TechCivic because I "borrowed" his push start placement! = ).

OEM S2000 Push Start Button

After a 6 month hiatus (3 contributed by getting my license suspended - _ -), I'm back to modding again! You can't stop it...it's...it's impossible!

October 6, 2007

Ok. After spending about 4 months trying to decide on the "look" and "feel" I wanted from a rim/tire package, I finally decided. I looked at the Volks (too expensive), I looked at Rotas (way too cheap for my car), and I looked at private sales. It was very hard to find that balance with fashion, functionality, and budget. I knew I wanted a bronze or gold rim and I wanted a lip. I considered buying a set and having them repainted, but that would up the total cost of some of the rims I was looking at to nearly as much as a cheaper set of expensive rims.

I finally came across a company called SportMax. My cousin bought the 006 for his XB and they looked really nice. After searching through the site for a little bit, I saw the 962. It came in a gold with a chrome lip! I wanted to try a staggered offset with 18x8.5 35 offset in the back and 18x7.5 42 offset in the front. Unfortunately, when I was trying to order them at Rent-A-Wheel, I was told they would be back ordered for 6 weeks atleast. That was the only local place that I knew that carried SportMax. I started hunting again.

I was looking into Velox Zeta-8's but I wasn't getting anywhere as far as getting them by the meet next Saturday. I decided to can that idea and search around again. I wandered onto a few websites and found an INSANE DEAL on the SportMax 962's. I immediately contacted the seller and he told me that he had the bronze in stock, but only 18x7.5 38offset. I spent a little more time calculating the package size vs the stocks and found it to be acceptable. I asked a friend of mine with a 4Runner to come with me to Torrance to pick them up. The glory of opening that box and seeing those rims in person for the first time made me glad that I waited that long.

I brought the rims today to Rent-A-Wheel so that I could take advantage of their "3 MOnths Same As Cash" offer for some rubber. Got a great deal on Falken Ziex 912's in 225/40/R18's. I was banking on the road hazard coverage, lifetime balancing, METAL valve stems (not standard rubber ones), wheel lock lugs, and installation. The installation went very smoothly and they were on the car in no time. Below are some pictures of my rep and install guy at Rent-A-Wheel and the installation process.

**Note**
I knew that 38 offset would bite me in the ass but it's the price you pay for glory! Anyways, I had to raise the car about 1/4 inch because it was rubbing. No biggie, GO TEIN SUPER STREET COILOVERS!!!

October 13, 2007
So I tried to install last night but it started raining so I decided to wait until TODAY, the day of the meet. Unfortunately, I was a little strapped for cash so I was pondering "If I wash my car, I can save 20 bucks and get it done better OR I can install the inserts, but just in case complications arise, I might be late for the meet". I took the safe route and washed the car. Here are some pics at the meet:

After the meet, the 909/626 convoy left. As we got to our respective exits, we disbanded and drove off into the sunset (well we were going east so I guess

it's OPPOSITE the sunset).

Andrew came over so we could fix his Progress Sway Bar and install the proper ballasts for his McHulloch HID Kit. Everything went smoothly, until I decided to take my door panel off.

After finishing his car, I went to work on the door inserts that I was intent on putting in that night. Andrew helped me take the passenger door panel off before he went home. I ended up breaking that damn clip next to the screw behind the door handle...all part of the price for glory I guess. I disassembled the door with help from that walk through in the Interiors section of the forum and proceeded to tear off the factory insert fabric.

Now I know you guys spent grips on the fabric by buying the "Sparco" or "Type-R" interior stuff but, I spent less than a fraction of what some people are paying and got great results.
