Si is gone...

Well, it's gone.

I traded in my 06 FBP Si today. It was a great car. Zippy acceleration, cornered well, rode nicely, plenty of room.

But I came to the realization that, FOR ME, when I wasn't pushing it by accelerating or cornering hard, the car was just too, well, practical. Unfortunately my lifestyle doesn't allow me to drive at or near the limits much of the time.

So I traded it in yesterday for a 2007 Mazda MX-5 (AKA Miata) in Sunlight Silver Metallic. I've put almost 200 miles on it so far and the top has been up less than 30 minutes.

I still think the Civic is a great car and my son still has his 06 LX so I'll still be around here occasionally - not that I've ever been a post whore anyway.

It was fun while it lasted but I hear the open roof calling me again.

Catch y'all later!

Convertables are great, just not here in Southern Louisiana. I had a 94 olds Cutlass Convertable back in the day, but couldn't find to many days that weren't too hot or wet to have it down. Mornings were to wet and evenings were too hot most of the time.

Same here. The last two days it's been unseasonably warm and rainy though.

I read you post over, and I'm a little stuck on some of your comments...

I can understand if you traded the FG2 for the MX5 because the Si was "too practical"... that makes sense to me. But your comments right after that threw me off: "Unfortunately my lifestyle doesn't allow me to drive at or near the limits much of the time."

If you didn't/couldn't drive at the limit of the Si (a more practical car), then why did you get an MX-5 (a definitely more sporty and purpose-built 2-seater)? If you don't like driving at the limits, I think you would've gotten something more subdued than the Si. But instead, you went the other way!

I don't know... I'm just not following.

Good luck.

maybe he meant something that was more fun even when you are not driving near the limits

it "feels" sportier when not being driven sportily (if that makes any sense)

Sky / Solstice > MX-5. In terms of looks.

MX-5 > Sky / Solstice = everything else.

*Not counting the Redline or GXP Sky/Solstice.

The MX-5 reminds me of a bar of soap, but it's still a good-looking car. Too small looking for me, though, I think.

Agree with the SKY... If it didn't have a GM badge, I would consider it!

@TJ213 - Thanks for the explanation. Yes, that makes more sense.

Should have got an S2000. Honda reliability, drop top and the sickest N/A 4 banger ever.

Yeah, and only an extra $12,800 over the price of the Miata.

I looked at the S2K but it was way out of my price range.

Yes but it will last twice as long and hold it's value much better come trade in time. Anyway good luck with the new car.
