Skunk 2 Catback review with pics, along with other new mods to my girl.
Whats up guys. I know I am not the first with this exhaust but I haven't seen anyone else post up pics or a review so I will finish with pictures what I started in my other thread. The exhaust is a Skunk 2 full stainless catback for the 06 SI. I got it from my man Tai at Corsport for 650 shipped. First impression when I opened it to inspect was excellent quality/craftsmanship as one would expect from Skunk 2 parts. Comes with all hardware and gaskets. Emblems look like they are welded on better then previous Megapower model exhaust. The install went ok except for the fact that I had a PITA getting the bolts out of the cat. Skunk 2 sends new longer bolts to bolt the exhaust up to the cat but my advise would be scrap them and use the factory bolts which are long enough you just have to put some muscle into it. The factory bolts are rusted and machine pressed into the metal of the cat and you can't just bang them out. It took some torch skills and a big ass hammer. Fitament on the car is fantasic. The exhaust does not rub or rattle in any places. At first glance the muffler looked almost too small for my liking but it is growing on me. No super large tip. It is prob. about 4 inchs in diameter. Now as far as sound and performance. The Skunk 2 def lives up to the rep of skunk 2 exhaust being on the loud side. Its not overpower loud but you can notice it with music on. It sounds great though. Deeper tone til about 4K. From 4K on its pretty loud and it completly changes sound at VTEC. It screams but in a good way. Overall I am happy with the sound I just have to get use to it being a little louder then the stock one. If you are in the market for a quite exhaust then keep looking. I haven't tried it out with the silencer yet though. Performance wise as with any exhaust your not going to feel power increase but you will notice the RPM's climb much faster with the Skunk2 then stock. 6K to redline comes noticably faster now. Anyway thats a quick write up. I haven't been able to get sound clips and I dont even know if they would turn out with my digital cam. When I get time I will try. On with the pics.

I was just trying to clean up all the wires in my engine bay. I has stereo power wire, HIDS, all kind of stuff and my stock battery cable was loose and wouldn't tighten anymore. I think it turned out great. I had to custom make a battery tie down from a piece of alluminum stock but I think it looks ok and it keep that big ass battery in place great. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Other mods to come. Battle Endless B-Pillar bar, and some Rota's in the mail Thanks for looking and feel free to leave feedback!CANMAN, |

Like I said sound clips will be a couple of days, prob Friday cuz I work til then. As far as highway drone, its hard to describe. If you are doing 70 and you have just enough pressure on the pedal to keep going 70 then there isn't any. But if you are applying more pressure just to hear the exhaust tone then is can be a little droney. I think every exhaust there is prob some drone. If you don't vary the throttle at all and you are doing a constant speed for a long distance there will be drone from any exhaust. Thats my thought.

Alright guys, sorry it took so long for me to get back. To answer the question about the Greddy, yeah this is def louder thus the reason (and everyone will think I am a crazy nut) that I am SELLING the exhaust already. Overall its a nice system and sounds great but its just a little to loud. Its not deafing but its just louder then I want. Its really weird because I am young but I am gonna make a comment that make me feel really old. I realized after having this one the car for a little less then two days that I am no longer into shiny, loud, rumble you car exhaust anymore. Its just not cool to me anymore and actually its kinda annoying. I am going back to stock and will stay that way. I never really had any big performance plans for the car. I sold a fast car to buy this. The fast car got me: broke, broken car, tickets, pulled over, and um more tickets. It rode like shit, girls were like what the f*ck is wrond with your car, its so loud, and and that stuff. I guess modding is a hobby/habit but I realize that other then the looks department I really have not desire to performance mod this car. Wow I neve though I would feel this way. My mom would always get pist and be like "why are you destroying a perfectly good car" Now I kinda feel where she was coming from. The car from the factory is a great car. Not the fastest, or the nicest, but they make other cars for that if that is you want you want. Look to the exhaust to be posted in the for sale forum. I don't want to discourage anyone from buying this exhaust because it is really good in all department but I just don't feel like modding anymore. I think I will shead a tear now for my interest in a hobby slowly going bye bye
For the people interested in sound clips look here. Skunk 2 Exhaust (not my car but you get the picture) Sorry for the long thread people and look in the for sale forum if interested. |
