To Si or not to Si...arrrg!!!
Well, if I wanted to, I could pick up a fiji blue 06 Si tomorrow. I could have gotten it tonight if I wanted to be really impulsive. Anyway, I got a quote for $23815 out the door, thats with fog lamps, a $900 built-in xm system (which I really don't want but meh) and a couple other extras. So I guess that is like ~$500 over msrp, not too bad. They wouldn't let me test drive it because they know it will sell immidiately, but it sure looks nice. Actually I did get to drive it into the garage from the parking lot, ~25 feet. What a tease!
Anyway, I'm trying to decide whether to get it or not. I have a deposit on an 07 ex MT coupe in GG that will be built at the end of this month, otd price will be $20k even on it. I just can't decide whether or not to get the Si. It is a lot more expensive, especially once I include the increased insurance rate, poorer gas mileage and the dependance on premium fuel. I don't know if I can justify the increased cost for my daily driver. My commute is about 60 miles each day. I like to drive spiritedly, but never over 80 mph (VA police are hardcore about speeders in this area and >80 is reckless driving=felony). I don't drag race or anything like that. So is the Si really for me? Would I be crazy for not picking it up tomorrow? Or will the EX suite me better? Arrgghh! :

I would say YES. I love mine. It is a blast to drive. And premium is not that much more than regular. Maybee $3-4 when you fill all the way from empty. Thats worth it for the the extra power and handling.
THe last car we bought was a celica. We settled for the gt because they didnt have a gts. Kicked my own a@@ the whole time we had it for not getting the car I wanted! |

Here's the thing. I LOVE my fiji blue SI, but I break 100 mph on a weekly basis. It's too easy (and fun). With a 60 mile commute you will just be tortured on a daily basis to keep the speed limit. I recommend you buy the SI and move out of VA. I drove through there this summer and man was it hard to keep the speed limit, and to not use my radar detector.

I love my Fiji Blue Si too... And the added power is so nice to have for passing and getting out of situations... Also I think the insurance for the Si is not bad at all... My insurance went down $1000 a year when I switched from my 03 Civic Ex to my 06 Civic Si!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (AAA Insurance)
Hooray Si!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh and get the Navi if you can! It's awesome! |

WTF is the deal with XM? I was pretty damn sure that the XM was STANDARD in the SI. Now I read these posts that say dealers are charging extra for XM. ANYWAYS. Get the SI. If you can afford it might as well. Nothing worse than doing what I did getting an lx, mine was an 05 though, and then say, "I need more power!!!!!!" and taking a loss on the trade in and THEN getting an SI. Plus if you really hate the SI its got pretty great resale.

oh well too late, it was sold. I didn't really want to pay $24k for an 06 with expensive add-ons that I don't want. For that price I might as well get a RSX with leather seats.
How do you think the EX coupe will compare to a 99 civic sedan ex, performance wise? Will it be faster, or does the increased engine power just make up for the increased weight? |
