DIY - Schroth Racing Harness install for Sedan (Coupe should be similar)

I am sad to say that I have requested that this thread be locked and the DIY removed. After speaking with the manufacturer about some concerns raised by other members I have decided to change the install. Once I receive the parts from Schroth and get them installed I will be doing a new DIY.

BTW the install is correct; the stock seat just is not approved by Schroth. They said they are 99% sure that the stock seat can take the forces necessary, but I don't want anyone to do my DIY then have an accident and be in that 1%. I purchased a new strap and will be attempting to convert the harness into a Ralleye 3 (the mount will be on the rear outer pillar.)

Just to reiterate - This DIY was for informational purposes only. I take no responsibility for your install. Please use common sense; you are modifying a factory safety system. If you are unsure of your abilities to complete this install please do not attempt it. Once again installation using my instructions is at your sole risk.

Thank again for everyones input.

Mat

diy temporarily removed.... will be updated

This is the proper installation for the harness. Since it uses the stock bolt locations and still uses the stock mounts there is no degredation to the safety of teh stock system. Also, even though this harness is DOT legal I would not recommend using it on the street simply because you can't even turn around to see if anyone is next to you.

When you use those belts the stock one isn't fastened right? Wouldn't the 'fasten seat belt' alarm be going off all the time?

When you use it you can fasten the stock belt behind you. At least thats how I plan on doing it.

i read somewhere that the best angle to have the harness is at 180 degrees as it leaves the seat. This means that you nêed a roll cage that has a tube going right behind the seats. It should still work gơod how you did it though.

You can just wrap it around the back of the seat and clip it in there.

naw thats not it, its the fact that unless the belt in the front belt is clipped in, then the sensor will keep going off, can we turn that off?

What I mean is run it behind the seat and clip it in where it normally would be. It'll be out of your way but still clipped in so it won't beep.
You could also probably go to a junk yard and see if you could find just the clip part of the seatbelt.
I don't think you should run the harness for DD so you probably shouldn't disable the chime.

I think the mods would have something to say about disabling that feature. I think it was discussed at one time but got deleted.

You're right. The way these harnesses are installed will cause your spine to get compressed in a crash. When you get thrown forward the harness is going to try to straighten out between your shoulders and the mounting point. Since the mounts are on the floor its goin to put force down on your shoulders and end up pushing down on your spine.

"The height of the shoulder strap mounts is critical because if they are too low they can actually compress the driver's spine in a collision."

I just think it sucks that we aren't able to discuss disabling the chime the RIGHT way. People are cutting wires and losing airbags just to avoid the chime because we can't talk about how to do it better. I have the same harness in my coupe and need to find a solution.

I don't get how you made just the lap belt visible for DD use. I really like how clean your install is. Mine is a mess which is why it is more or less just a jungle in my lack of a backseat.

rori ( f*ck your form ) <3
This install is completely done wrong by the looks of it. Theres a 45 degree angle being made which is by far much too big of an angle and will mess you up in an accident.
