Removing Dash to get at vents
Ok so I will explain I had a mouse in my car and now it stinks to high heaven when air comes through the air intake and even worse when I turn on the air or A/C. I don't know if she is dead in a vent hose somewhere or if it's just urine, either way we tried cleaning it and it still reeks, I think the only other option is the disassemble the dash and have a look around. I really don't want to have to pay Honda to do it. Please help. I also know nothing about doing this so the more the info the better.

Hey folks, I'm the proud new owner of an 08 Civic Si Sedan.
I'm not overly mechanically inclined, so I'm somewhat hesitant to start unscrewing things. Just behind the steering wheel, there's a clear piece of plastic in front of the Tach...someone tried to "clean" it with spray of some sort I assume, and apparently it got in behind the plastic and dried.. Looks horrible, so if someone can help me and tell me step by step (pics would be amazing) how to get to that piece of clear plastic so I can clean it, I'd be very greatly appreciative. Thanks much.. |

Funny, that's exactly why I'm on here. Just bought an 06 Si and I have the same problem with something on the plastic cover in front of the tach. I'm going to try using a Dremel and a buffing brush or maybe some polishing compound to see if that'll help at all first. I'll post up how that goes...

It's incredibly easy to remove that clear piece in front of the tach. You unscrew one screw to the left of the steering wheel and then pull firmly on any location around the meter cover and it'll pop right off. I think there were eight snaps to pull loose. Then you disconnect the wiring to the switches on the meter cover and your gauge unit is right there. Undo the three screws (one left, one right, one on top) and you can just press little tabs that hold that clear piece in place. I tried cleaning mind and it didn't work, so tomorrow when the dealer opens up I'm going to go pick up a new one. It's really simple. From start to finish it took me under ten minutes. If you want pics, I have them, just PM me and I'll send them your way.

I want to permanently remove the rear deck. Is that possible?
After taking a good look at how much room there is between the rear seats and the rear glass on my 06 sedan, I've got this idea in my head that it would be awesome to make it a pseudo-wagon/hatch by removing the rear deck entirely. I'm not worried about having to relocate the speakers. I'm more concerned about crash safety as the deck is metal and for all I know is integral to the structural rigidity of the whole vehicle or at least to holding the rear seats in place. Any thoughts? If I knew it were safe, I'd get started today! It would be so the dog could have an air-conditioned, somewhat well-lit space to ride when all the seats are taken. She's too big to ride on a lap but small enough to enjoy herself back there if there were a "back there." I saw the instructions for removing the deck cover (to access the speakers, etc), but after doing that is it possible to remove the deck itself? |
