All right, I've got a really easy DIY for y'all and you'll shoot yourself in the foot for not thinking of it. Have you ever had stuff roll around all over the place in your trunk while you drive or your trunk is just an unorganized mess and you're just sick of it? Try this very simple, economical solution. Note that this doesn't work with uncarpeted trunk liners, but you can do it with a little bit of modification, which I won't discuss here.



Materials needed:

- One or more plastic stackable containers (I used a 16 qt Sterlite box from Target, $3.00)
- Velcro with adhesive backing (I used Scotch brand Reusable Fasteners with 3M backing from Target, $6.50)

Other household items you'll need (most are optional):
- scissor or razor blade or something sharp to cut with (required)
- clean lint free cloth
- gloves and safety glasses (Safety first! You never can be too careful around scissors!)

1. Using gloves and safety glasses, cut four pieces of the hooked part of the Velcro (not the furry/fuzzy side) in 3/4" to 1" lengths.

2. Clean the bottom of the container with a clean, lint free cloth. Use rubbing alcohol if needed.

3. Take off backing and apply to the corners of the underside of the box as shown:


Note that the bottom of this container is actually raised off of the perimeter lip. You want the Velcro to be such that it will reach the carpeted surface of your trunk.


4. Throw your junk into the container.


5. Cover your container and place the container, Velcro side down, in the trunk.


6. Presto! The container doesn't move all over the place when you drive and your trunk is nice and neat.

7. Optional: Use the fuzzy side of the Velcro and apply to the top of the lid. Follow steps 1-6 for a similar sized container (use the same shaped container) and you've got modular storage!


Enjoy your organized trunk!

Don't use too much Velcro otherwise you'll end up with a fluffy carpeted trunk in the long run. Cut the 1" Velcro strips in half, lengthwise, if you need to, to minimize carpet fluff.

Heh, those wouldn't fit with my 2 12" subwoofers, but nice idea.

You could use smaller containers if you want to carry around smaller stuff.

That 16 qt box I used can fit two plastic grocery bags or one paper grocery bag, for you shoppers out there.

The nice thing about using several boxes is that you could set up a perimeter around a larger or odd shaped item, like a baseball bat for example, to keep it from rolling around all over the place. You could fit empty boxes within each other so you can have a bunch of boxes ready to go without taking up a lot of trunk space.

Ideas for stuff to carry are dirty shoes after a hike or at the beach, an extra blanket or jacket, even an emergency kit.

I was thinking about a cargo net, too but this is much cheaper and more organized.

I was thinking about getting a cargo net so my bat doesn't roll around. That's the most annoying sound hearing it bang around lol Buttttttt I realized it was cheaper to get unlazy and take the bat out

even easier, get on one those cheapo rubber mats you put in cupboards or toolboxes. place it on your trunk floor and then place the tupperware on that. wont scuff up the carpeting either. the mat i got matches the grey in the trunk ,ill snap a pic later.

That would fit, however there are no tie down hooks in the Civic unless you found a way to install some. Without the tie down hooks, that organizer might slide around as well, depending on how heavily loaded it is.

You can find organizers like that at Target as well.
