DIY: Camera Mount

Hello!

Just wanted to share this simple and cheap DIY for those who want to make their very own camera mount! WOOOO!

Materials:
any old tripod head/stick thingy
brackets (doesn't matter what kind you use, as long as it works)
drill

First, simply measure up where you need to drill the four holes. The distance between the two bars is roughly 16-17 cm (not mm, ignore the picture).

Then, just screw it into the headrest bars, and you're all set! Easy, yeah?

Here's a video of me testing it out.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=T5aQ6Ri568E

Feel free to add your thoughts and suggestions! Constructive criticism only please.

If you used a fluid-based headstock, do you think that the video capture would be smoother? Or would the problem lie in the fact that it's bolted unto the seat solidly, thus jostling it?

Either way, cool! I think I have a spare tripod laying around....

Thanks guys! As you can see from the video, it's not perfect, but it gets the job done, and it's really really cheap.

Izzy - I think the problem would probably have more to do with the fact that it's bolted to the passenger's headrest, which isn't entirely free from vibrations and bumpiness, but I'm sure a fluid-based headstock would help the video quality. Also, it should be noted that I was using the movie function on an old digital camera, rather than a camcorder.

TUKONG - The camera I used to record the video is a Canon PowerShot A530. The camera I used to take the pictures is a Canon Digital Rebel XT.

Yeah, I guess it's one of those things that I have to try out and see. My parents don't really use their DVD camcorder, and I think that has some kinda anti-skip/bounce thing on it....gotta try that before spending good cash on a fluid head.

My video camera fits perfectly in the cutout in the pax seat headrest. Lift the headrest, set the camera on the seat push the headrest down...done. The video is surprising smooth.

Looking back at your pics, apparently, the sedan headrests are different from the coupes.

This looks like I sweet mod. Much easier that trying to hold the camera yourself and/or trying to find someone to sit int he seat and record. I'll definately be trying this sometime soon.
