There is enough room to put your finger in there to flip it down. It is not hard to open. I will take some more pics tonight to give you a better idea on space.

Just ordered mine today at my local Volvo Dealership! It cost me $40 CDN (even though our exchange rates are now similar Canada still has more expensive items).

Parts guy said it should be in next week. I will post pics of mine when I get it. Part# 30740417 (as stated in the DIY) is the grey version of the spectacle holder.

Weapon: Does the sunglasses slide around a bit inside that thing? I thinking of glueing a rubber peg in the middle so it would keep the sunglasses stationary. Do you think it would be needed?

No they shouldn't slide much if at all.. It has a felt lining that protects and grips at the same time. They will be pretty secure and stable in there.

Talking Installed my Sunglasses Holder

Yahoo!! I finally installed my new sunglasses holder!! Just a word about the product. It fits quite well into the "suicide handle" space on my Civic SI. And it DOES match very well with the grey colored roof lining.

Anyway, it took me about 30-45 minutes to install because I had to file down the drywall anchors because the ones I got were slightly too big but after filing the top part of the anchor it managed to fit with SOME PATIENCE (it did take a little while ). Plus trying to install something while sitting the driver seat was a bit ackward.

Otherwise, it wasn't too bad of a mod to install. I really like it , my pair of oakleys fit nicely into the holder. Here are some pics (the closed pic has the sunglasses in them)
