first diy...permanent radar detector perfect location i think..lots of pics
i was tired of the cord hanging and having the radar detector in my way so i came up with a solution...didn't think it would workbeing on the dot matrix but it really does hold so far....
things needed: radar detector and bracket(duh!) rear view mirror mounting button and window glue sand paper jb kwik or some other type of heavy duty glue first step: mount the buttonn to the radar detector bracket..you will need to use the epoxy and sand the bracket down for it to hold ![]() second step: mount the button and bracket to the windshield...at first i didn't think it would stick to the dot matrix but i wanted to try anyways and it is holding exceptionally well...if it ends up not staying i'll just mount it to the left of the mirror...no biggy...but i like it here better. ![]() third step: splice into your adapter the same way you would with anything else ![]() fourth step: routing wires...i read on another thread you can use the wires in the dome light...last time i tried that i broke the dome light on my cherokee so i stayed away from that...so i pushed the wires up above the headliner and then tucked it into the pillar and then down the door jam and into the fuse box area ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() fifth step: if anyone has a better place to hook wires up let me know but these worked best for me...i hooked the power to fuse 1(power windows) because of being ignition hot...i also tried used accessory but maybe i'm dumb but i thought it was just ignition hot but its always hot...and i grounded to the bolt on the fuse block(i'm might change this haven't decided) ![]() almost done: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() hope everyone enjoys...i was feeling guilty using everyone else diy's and not contributing.... |

not gonna work, in a couple of weeks the radar detector is gonna fall down because of the mounting tape. it is strong enough to hold in a controlled temperature, but when exposed to direct sunlight everyday or when parked outside its gonna heat up really quickly and your radar detector is just gonna fall off. your best bet it to stick to the suction cups.

thats so funny because it was been up there for 8 months in heat above 100 and below 10 in kansas and never came off till i took it off...did its job perfectly...just got rid of that detector and went to a valentine and then sold it because i don't speed anymore but this work just like it should...for gosh sakes...i used the mounting button and glue for a rear view mirror to do it |

The radar detector is hopefully going to detect stray radar emissions before the cop is hitting the nose of your car, otherwise it's kind of useless. So having it low to be closer where they are hitting you will do nothing. The detector is meant to pick up stray radar emissions before you get pegged by the radar yourself.
Anywhere with a clear view will work. |

Radar on the other hand is different. Radar guns have a cone or dish-shaped antenna that concentrates the radio signal, but the electromagnetic wave quickly spreads out over a wide area. Where laser is extremely directional. By the time radar hits you, it would have spread out, meaning the detector has a better chance at seeing the signal up high. |
