R18 P2R spacer w/thermal gasket: CEL's, poor idle, check fuel cap, lost mpg solver
OK guys with R18 TBS there is a problem with the design. There is no relief for the Evap solenoid. It suppose to purge fuel vapors into the throttle body. When its blocked by the TBS and/or gasket the fuel vapors have nowhere to go and Im not sure why but causes the Check Fuel Cap message to appear. So i researched how to fix it and read it on someone elses post. It did have a pic but hard to understand hopefully mine gives you a clearer better understanding. This the order they go: Throttle body, Thermal Gasket, Spacer, OEM O-Ring gasket, Intake manifold. Disconnect battery first very important. May seem unnecessary but I'll explain why.

Now I am going to show you: Whats getting blocked Blue Arrow where gasses need to go Red Arrow :

The intake manifold has this space where the gasses travel through:

You need to notch out the gasket like this:

If you were like me and installed it, drove around for awhile before you got the fuel cap message. When you take it off you will probably have the space you need to cut out imprinted on the gasket so should be easy to figure where to cut. Do not cut all the way to the big circle opening.
Make sure you put the gasket on the right way. It is possible to install wrong as in the top triangle part points up instead of down. (will take off mine and take pics to show what I am talking about)
Now you can reconnect your battery. You need to do this so that the ECU resets and you can do the idle relearn. Some say its a myth but I think it works. Its up to you if you do it but if you dont and have idle issues you'll end up having to do it later so might as well do it now while you got your tools out. OK after you connect the battery and everything is buttoned up start you car and bring the temp up to 200°F. To do this quickly hold your rpms to 3K for a few minutes. If you have flashpro you can see it but sorta remember how many bars you normally have after driving for a while (sorry had flashpro so didnt count the bars). Once you get it to operating temp let your car idle for about 5 minutes after that. Once completed go enjoy your new found powa. Also if you havent installed a TBS but thinking about it and already have an aftermarket intake you should also do idle relearn even if you dont have a TBS it should help ECU adjust to more air flow and work better plus this is free to try it.

Dont believe in idle relearn here's what VitViper says about it.
