This should come as no surprise [another AEM CEL thread]
i have an aem cai for the r18 and cel has been on and off ever since install back in about may/june. ive done the disconnecting of the battery and idleing for 2 fan cycles, refilled coolant (was below 'min' when the rough idea crossed my mind) still CEL every now and then. i can basically count on it to turn on every sat afternoon and off sunday evening. i think i read somewhere some people were getting together to call AEM but does anyone have any updates on that? ive been considering getting the Injen and then selling the AEM when it arrives but im satisfied with the AEMs sound and appearance (red on ASMetallic) and not having to slice and dice my fender lineing . ive considered throwing the stock back on but the thought of how difficult it was to take off haunts me. perhaps something else may be wrong with the car?? im thinking stock back on saturday/sunday and to honda the same day to see whats up. and for anyone who has said they havent had a CEL since install please provide some insight. appreciate it. thanks in advance

I can agree with you on the sound and quality of the AEM. I also thought about taking it off and getting the Injen, but from some pictures that i've seen the quality of it and the design of the bends dont look as good as the AEM... Like I've said before I went to Honda to get the codes from the CEL and it said that the "MAP" sensor said its running Lean, and the ECU and in order for it to run straight it has to adjust more then 125%, that is the reason for the CEL...
Mine doesnt come on and off like your, and altho the car runs great, there is a little problem with my RPMs droping in the 400s range and stalling twice at 20+ MPH because the RPMs went down too low... It makes me mad a little bit.

thats actually really good info. do you think there is anything that can be adjusted or 'tweeked' to help this problem? i dont know a great deal about internals but things such as fuel injectors and i dont know something like a fuel pressure mod? and the stalling around 20mph happened to me once it was the smoothest stall ever and all of a sudden my battery light and everything turned on steering wheel seemed to lock up i dont know.
ps. im upset

Yea thats exactly what happened to me, The lights went on and it was like the engine just turned off not stalled... Weird, happened a few times, and the RPMs drop to the low 400 RPMs every 2-3 stop I make.
Im Trying something different when i reset my battery today, if the CEL comes back on, Im buying the Injen. I just want my car to run good, is that something so hard to ask for!!!!! Infiniti_4_life |

If I were you I would highly consider the Fujita SRI. I have the fujita SRI, and it looks great, sounds unbelievable, and you can really hear and feel the switch over into VTEC. I can definitely feel the power increase, and the install was VERY easy. Let me know what you decide to do.

I had a few problems with the CEL, but it went away after I realized that I had forgotten to tighten one of the clamps.
Have you made sure that everything is on tight and fits well and that there are no leaks or loose bolts/clamps? That seemed to be my problem when I had the CEL. |

ive got the AEM CAI and i have had no CEL lights what so ever, i didnt even let it idle after i installed it i just started it up, reved to like 3K and took it round the block.
sounds good, no stalling what so ever its a perfect fit and i think its a great product. got the hoses clamped down and everything, also make sure your MAF sensor didnt get dirty either, thats a real sensitive peice right there AEM > * |

Definitely not a surprise. The R&D of AEM has gone downhill. I’m going to be switching to an Injen in the next coming months or next spring. And you’re right, the installation process was hell and I don’t want to put the stock air box on because it’s a total PITA.
Believe me, I've tried everything to get rid of that code - disconnect negative battery like 10 - 20 times, check hoses, clean the MAF sensor with a MAF sensor cleaner, let it idle, drive it really light for the first 100km and it comes on randomly. Last two times it came on was when I was in neutral, waiting at the red light. Totally ridiculous. AEM's tech support is crap too. I sent in my warranty form and not a response.

this weekend ill take it to a buddy's and we'll both have a look at everything and run through the install. retighten, clean, the whole kit n kaboodle. if the CEL holds strong ill have to purchase injen for ease of mind and well health of the car in the long run.
but i thank all of you for your insights and experience with it. |
