Radar Detectors

I had a radar detector years ago and it really stunk. I couldn't drive anywhere without it beeping constantly at me in the city and alot of time on the highways even when there was no cop anywhere. Are the new ones any better, or do they still pick up things that aren't there? If they are better, what brands/types would you suggest?

Go run some searches. Lots of guys have detectors on here.

Yes there are alot of people here who have said they have them, but I haven't been lucky enough to find much saying that they like them, or they don't like them, or anything other than they have one. I've found a few that say what kind it is, but nothing about functionality or the like.

you get what you pay for, dont bother getting a cobra or other cheap brand. stick with the escort 8500 X50 , 9500i, or the valentine one.

Escort 8500 is sick, I've had it for a year and 1/2 and it has saved me lots of $$$$$ in the long run. I also drive on the interstate a lot and thats when it comes in handy especially at night

the valentine 1 is by far the best.. i have it set on expert mode and mine doesn't beep unless a cop is around running radar.. its great

The Valentine One is the best at detecting radar and laser and Cobra makes some of the worst radar detectors in the world.

i had/have a cobra and it has saved me quite a bit but it goes off on everything. But I pretty much know when and where its going to go off, so if it goes off somewhere it usually doesn't I slow down and start looking. But I do plan on getting a better one sometime when i have the money.

valentine one FTW! you can change its setting so that it dosent pick up everything. forth the $400 imo

Me to, today it save me from a ticket.. i was going to do a drive by video of my car and as soon as i push the pedal to the floor the radar started beeping and i slow down and than i see 2 cops coming my way.. if it was not for the radar i had gone past the cops doing 90+ on a 60mph.

my cobra was about $170..

pointless unless your in a GROUP of cars, the cop and turn it on and off with a flick of a switch

i have an escort 9500i.... cool features are you can block out false alarms and mark known cop spots cuz its gps enabled..... Works pretty good. Saved me a bunch of times. It will run you $450

Valentine 1 has the farthest reaching radar according to "Guys of LIDAR" but it still gives out false alarms...but it has those cool arrows that tell you where you are getting blasted from....

Top radars on the market are escort 8500, escort 9500, Valentine one, Beltronics RX65 and beltronics STI...

The STI is really only valuable in Virginia and DC where radar detectors are illegal. Cops there have radar detector detectors(yes you heard that right).... makes cops radar detector detecors unable to detect your radar detector.

I did alot of research............

I wouldn't want to get caught with one of those. Wouldn't that be considered a jamming device (very illegal)?
