Different Japanese Plate Idea

Well i was rear ended about a week ago and my car got pushed into the car in front of me. The body shop was kind enough to fill in the hole for the license plate bracket and now im debating if i should put my plate back on... When i first got the car i took the plate right off the car and have been without one for about 4-5 months. The law in my province is i must have a license plate attached to the front of my vehicle so i got an idea...

I don't want to put my plate back on because it would look like crap (ugly-looking plate) but what if i bought a Japanese License plate and put my actual license plate numbers on it? Now the only problem with this is that my plate has 3 numbers, a small space and then 3 letters. You do get the option of having to extra numbers put at the top of the license plate (however, they are small). So i thought to myself... What if i ordered a japanese plate, have the 2 smaller numbers at the top be the year of my car (08) and order a blank plate (no numbers or letters) and just put on decals or magnets for my numbers and letters. Plus if i ever got tired of it, i could easily change it to something else. I thought this was a pretty good idea however, the decals/magnets wouldnt look as good as real numbers and/or letters.

the only reason i thought of this decal/magnet idea is because the japanese plates only offer up to 5 characters. I would need 6 and a small space incase anyone was unaware

What do you guys think?

I think you should ask a cop first. There's no point in doing all that work only to find out it's illegal. Although it's a very clever idea, and I commend you for thinking out of the box. I personally believe it's a little too over the top. Check out the DIY section for the offset mounting bracket which gives you a slightly different appearance from the other 6 billion civics in the world.

I would think that would be illegal. Don't know how things are up north of the boarder but down here in the states, the license plate must identify the state that the car is registered in. And I would like to assume that it would be the same for you up north of the boarder as well.

maybe ill just get a small decal made that says "British Columbia, Canada" and put it under the japanese characters.. it would be like1/4" in height and 3-4 inches long.. then the only thing they could bitch about is the fact that the plate is not real. It beats not having a plate at all.

You could just print your own insurance card and registration too. Beats not having them at all......

I would do that here in California but stupid governator states that is illegal because the glass causes an "Impedance" from the plate being read.
