Noob tint questions...

Looking at getting my sedan tinted.

This place has "samples" on their web page:
Tint Master of Hartford (CT)

Question is, what's what, in looking at those?

Is 35% darker than 20% (I assume so).

What % would you recommend to a Royabl Blue car?

They quote $159 for a 2006 sedan, btw. One year warrenty.

<edit> Their site says:
"Madico energy control window film is our specialty."
(Ever hear of that stuff?)

Thank you,
-Glenn

The % is the amount of light filtered or let in. The lower the # the darker the tint. So 20% is darker.

$160 for a sedan? Not bad. I paid $175 for a coupe and all I got was 50% front 35% rear. VA law, now that i'm in PA I wanna go darker but it seems a waste.

Dark would look great on a royal blue.

Always be careful on where you go. If I was you I'd go into the regional forums and ask around for a good tint shop near where you live.

There's a lot of horror stories about tint shops. When you find a good one it's like finding gold. In my town we got this tiny ass tint shop and it's kick ass. Needless to say there's always at least a months wait before you can get in. their kinda pricey too but they do a fantastic job.

Gurantee's aren't always the best thing to judge from. A lot of places hand out gurantees to get people in the door.

Found a good place in northern Connecticut...

As recommended by Acura of Avon (CT):

Car Team / Valley Auto Body
Park Road, Simsbury.
Ask for Doug.

Quoted me $189 + CT tax for a 2006 sedan.
Three year warrenty on the tints.

Get 20% or 35%, whatever is the darkest allowed by law. But keep it the same shade all the way around. I think it looks bad to have darker rear windows than the front windows. And since you have the Sedan make sure they tint the little windows next to the side mirrors.

Hey Glenn do you know what % tints are legal here in CT? Id like to get my coupe tinted eventually but I dont wanna get pulled over all the time because of having tints that are too dark.

i dont think they care to much about it in cali i mean unless you get pulled over and a cap cant see in at all at night then maybe he will draw his gun or something, but its just a fix it ticket if you get caught, but im doing 35-50 % of the lumar type just sucks in ca you cant make the tint reflective at all

a sedan should cost anywhere from 130-150 if you pay anymore then that your getting scammed.

I paid 100 bucks for my coupe and had the front visor done too. mine are 5%. :)

Also depends on your location. I paid $145 for all windows plus strip. 20% tints. Just go somewhere that has lifetime warranty and does good jobs the first time around, e.g. no bubbles or other noticable blemishes.

More expensive doesn't mean better. I got my Si done for $130 with lifetime warranty. I'm sure prices vary from place to place and how many places around town. I've had experince with the guy I went to, so I know he is good. Plus he does alot of residential and commercial tinting, so hes got alot of experience(20 years I think) Just ask some other people around town. I have always used a tint place that uses Sunguard Tint material. I heard it is really good material.

Actually, the lower the percentage the DARKER the tint. You don't want to go darker than 20%. Most states legal limit is 35% some let you have 30%. Personally I would go 20% which would look great and most places wont hassle you about it. Don't go anything lighter than 30%. Not worth it in my opinion. Don't go 5% either since you will have trouble seeing at night and the cops definitely will hassle you. It has that punk ricer look that really isn't cool anyway. 20% looks best which will still give you good visibility at night. If you worried about your state's legal limit go 30% Simple....

Also I am not sure where your Antenna is but if it is in the rear window then you will loose AM reception if you use a Metallic type tint. Happened to my on my 06 Daytona Charger. If you are worried about that make sure and use a Ceramic based tint and not a Metallic.
