you guys are all speaking of heat... i wonder if i should cut some slits in the film to allow more heat to get out. they should be nearly unnoticeable...thoughts?

Awesome, thanks Pete. I'd like to try them without the slits first if that's okay. My lamin-x hasn't caused me any problems with burning and I've had them for a year or so. I'm just careful not to leave the fogs on while at a standstill for more than a few minutes.

Guys, I checked my mail today and the overlays are in. I'll be posting pics a little later tonight after I get some night shots. You'll be able to see the difference between no overlay, the yellow Lamin-x overlays, and the GRFXP yellow overlay. I can tell you already that the new GRFXP have a much bolder yellow tint (JDM tint) than the Lamin-x. Installing vinyl over fogs that are already mounted can be a little frustrating and difficult, but overall the GRFXP was MUCH easier than the Lamin-x. I had tons of little air bubbles under my Lamin-x, but the GRFXP went on perfectly.

Also, I'd like to note that the GRFXP film is slightly thinner than the Lamin-x so it's probably less likely to burn as heat can escape much better. However, I got the Lamin-x film primarily to protect my fogs from rocks cracking them and i've had no problems the past year. Although the GRFXP is slightly thinner, I think they'd also take any rock impacts quite well and prevent the lens from cracking. Stay tuned for pics...

I just took a 30 min drive from a friends house with them on. It's about 70 outside and nighttime. I don't really want to burn test them cuz I like 'em too much. But I would definitely bet that they would...just like any other vinyl overlay would if you left them on with the car at a standstill for more than 10 mins or so. Our fog lens get extremely hot. Will post pics in a few mins.

OK, so here are the pics. I'll be uploading a couple more tomorrow when I get both sides done. I left the Lamin-x on the passenger side fog so that you guys could get an idea of the difference in color, both on the car and the actual light output. Both the Lamin-x and GRFXP overlays leave a few millimeters of the fog lens uncovered on the left and right sides of the lens. This helps let heat escape and prevent burning of the vinyl. Lamin-x explains this in detail on their website. I trust them more than I do myself when it comes to overlays, so I sent Pete the dimensions that incorporated this change. Let me and Pete (blue rocket) know what you think!

Just a normal, vinyl free shot of a FG fog:

Lamin-x (notice the bubbles...bad installation on my part):

GRFXP:

Front side shot:

Lamin-x:

GRFXP:

Lamin-x on the passenger and GRFXP on the driver:

Light output shot:

Thanks again Pete for allowing me to help and for the free overlays! I think we might have just made enemies with Lamin-x, Inc.

UPDATE:

Okay, so I was impatient and decided to finish it up tonight. Here's both of the overlays installed. I really couldn't be happier with these. I'll just have to see how they stand the test of time (and 80mph road debris).

I don't think anyone's volunteered to send him a template for the FA yet. If you're the first, then you'll get free overlays just like I did!

Someone else has the CSX covered though.

By "right side", I'm guessing that you're referring to the passenger side. If you really read my post then you'd see that it was Lamin-x film and not GRFXP's.

Thank you very much for this write up, i really appreciate it! It's also nice to see how great they actually look... i'm impressed. Did you use the normal ones or the ones with slits? I'm thinking the ones with slits arent needed?

I'll be throwing these pics on the site soon as well as the actual product so people can start ordering!
