Windows getting tinted

Getting my windows tinted tomorrow. Can't wait for it. So excited. Will post pics as soon as it's done.

I'm thinking about 40% front and 35% rear. Maybe a little darker.

Ouch, PA sucks! Write your representatives. Let me know if you need some key points to help our your letter.

Be sure to read my guide on picking a good tint shop before you get it done:

do you have a 2dr or 4dr ? if you can get away with having 35% in your state i would get that all the way around. getting a darker tint in the back doesnt flow well especially if you have a 4dr. theres a few pics in this thread i started the other day
anyone have 50% tint?

In PA they require clear glass.

In CA (like the originator of the post) it's nothing up front and anything in the back. So 40% up front is going to be illegal for him.

In MN, the law is 50% (net!) all around! We get the shaft too.

Damn son, that looks fresh. Is that really 40% in the front?? I have 20% all around and shit looks hot.. only problem is my interior lights reflect off the windows so it's somewhat tough to see my mirrors through the tint at night.

Thanks black07

The film is made by Solar Guard. I used the Solar Gard Supreme: Performance Series. Solar Guard uses a different % number. The ones I got are Supreme 15 for the rear side windows and rear windshield and Supreme 28 on the front side windows and the two small triangle windows. Solar Guard goes by Solar Transmittance (T) (by that meaning how much solar energy is transmitted through the film) front are 23% T and rear are 12% T.

Oh and total cost me $200. I think this is the best 200 I've spent.

I think you're right. I asked for something close to 40% and that's the one that the shop recommended.

Oh tru.. ya $200 is a solid price.. I didn't get mine done for much cheaper.. and you're right, tints are so necessary to make the car look hot.

Whomever fed you that line was blowing smoke in places it doesn't belong.

SolarGard has always just been notorious for naming their films with some strange number. I can take pictures of my spec books, but the % is not solar transmittance. If it was things like 20% would be called 60%!

SG just loves naming something 38 instead of 35, or calling it 13 instead of 15 (even though it's really 16%).

Automotive Films Performance Specifications: Performance Window Tint by Solar Gard Window Films - Auto Window tinting

They no longer publish the specs on their website for ST, but I have it in my books.

are you happy with the way your car looks with the 40% all around? I have a 4 door and live in cali too, which means 0 tint on the front drivers/pass side. so i'm debating on getting a "light" tint all the way around or a dark tint on the back and nothing in the front to keep it "legal".

Actually, the rear half of the car is a shade darker than the front half. But yea I'm loving it. The shade I have for the front is just right for the front and the rear is just right for the rear I think.

Like I said before, it's the best 200 I've spent.
