Also, considering NJ's state law....it's illegal to go that dark. Don't forget all the important questions to ask your tinter located here: How YOU can pick a good tint shop IMO, you'd be better off going with a high light transmitting film up front to avoid the police. |

I had 20% tint on my GTI that I had before my Si...
![]() However, it's a pain in the @$$ to get it inspected... you have to 'know someone' in order for it to pass... so that is why I have 35% on my Si coupe... I just didn't want the hassle any more... ![]() And my wife's NHBP Coupe has 35% as well... dealer put it on even tho we asked them not to as she wanted 20% on her Si after she saw how good it looked on the GTI!

Here in Charlotte NC 20% is done by alot of folks. I had 20% on my acura cl and audi a4 and it was just right. It took a few weeks of night time driving and parking to get used to it b/c at night it can get real dark. Cops usually don't pull people over for tint alone. Once they have you for something then they might break it to ya. I have a couple of friends who are Charlotte cops and they tell me how cops in general kinda fear people with dark tint since they cant see what's going on inside while they walk up. SO in general, they tend to ignore the tint unless someone is swerving, speeding, etc.

Not sure how strict NJ laws are on tint. I would be carefull of that more than anything else. Trust me nothing worse than getting pulled for tint.....then getting exhaust, car, clearance tickets at the same time. It juts gives them a reason to pull you. Just be careful.

Note: It DOES look dark but it depends on the angle. If you look at it from angle of the 2nd pic i posted, it will look dark because the backend of the car your looking into is also tinted + it was a cloudy day.
If its hella sunny out, you can still see in sort of (think silouette) At night, its hard to see in at all but if you look across, as if your standing in from of the driver side window and look in toward the passenger side, you can probably see silouette of a person as well. |

Here are some pics of my SI tinted and on a sunny day. Just to give you another angle. It's 20% tint.
![]() ![]() ![]() You can make out a person and sort of see there face during the day, but at night you cant see crap through the side windows. Through the rear window all you can see is the red of the radio, nothing else. And thats only if your in a SUV or a truck. I've had it for a couple of months with no problems. Although, I am located in WA so its a lil different. Hope these pics helped ya. And if it means anything, I wish I would have went darker. |
