The Max AC button: Does it do anything?

Recently I've fallen under the habit of pressing the "Max AC" button in my LX sedan. I've noticed that it turns on the recirculate button, but other than that, does it do anything or is it a big scam to fill up dashboard space?

I think it's just a placebo type thing...

I got curious and turned on the re-circulation button...then hit max ac..nothing noticable happens...

My vote: Useless

i think the main use for that is to cool down the car faster in those really hot days, but otherwise is not that big a difference

Well yeah, but my question is did honda just put that button there just to fill up dashboard space (I mean, it is huge), or does it actually do something useful besides turn on the recirculate button?

Right, it's just there to help cool the air faster. Instead of pressing two buttons (AC & recirculate), you only press one button to turn on both features.

The button turns on the recirculate and upper vents. I usually have upper and lower vents on and when I press the max ac then it changes to only upper so it seems like it is blowing more air even when it isnt

Yup it does the same thing if you had hit recirc and vents, but hey I like hitting 1 button over 2 :)

Exactly. it's just for convenience when you get in your car on a day so hot you're hallucinating. The button is twice as big so you can't miss it. Worthwhile feature since recirculating the air helps it cool down much faster.

I use MaxAC all the time, is there any reason you wouldn't want to do this, any reason to change to outside air AC now and again?

the manual says to use mostly the regular A/C button because when the air is recirculated inside the cabin of the car it goes through the incabin filter so if you use the MAX A/C alot then your filter will get dirtier faster... on really hot days its prob. best to keep it on MAX (for comfort) because its easier to keep the air inside the car cool than it is to constantly cool 100+ degree air...

No, i read the manual for other cars and it says max a/c SAVES gas. Because its just reusing the cool air, and its not having to pull the hot air from outside and cool that hot air down

ok i got a question, without hitting the ac button, and jst turning the temp to blue, its already cold air, whats the main difference between that and the AC since, both is cold air, except one may blow harder
is it for defogging reasons?

Umm...AC blows artificially cold air. Without the AC on it is just blowing air because its just a fan. So if it is hot outside it will blow warm air out.

Difference..........Yes

I usually just turn on the A/C button on a hot day. It does take a little time cool the interior down. After that I learned that recuiculate the interior air will cool down faster than pulling the hot air from outside. And I notice that I have never use the Max A/C button yet. So I tried once after got off from work around 3pm on a more than 100 degree day. I noticed that much colder air came out from the vent. In my opinion, I think it controls the amount of refrigerants to cuiculate the whole A/C system. :

but if you turn the temp to red the fan's air will also be warmer.
and also when the fan is turn off, air still goes through, and i am aware that its the outside air, but y is it usually warmer that the air outside

Because You have to consider the hotter engine bay temperature. Doesn't matter how they route the intake vent. It's still have to go through the engine area. That why it's much hotter.

I love the Max button on my A/C. It really helps on those hot summer days.
