What is your personal opinion about tint?
So I have been looking around for places to tint my car in Pittsburgh. So I finally found a place they had a display of sample tints: 5%, 15%, and 35%. It also said all tint is illegal in PA.
So I can get my car done for $145 all tinted up but I cant decide what percentage of tint I would want. I know I would want 5% all around but that is just asking for trouble around my area, I was thinking 15% all the way around on black night hawk paint. What are your opinions in my situation. 35% |

I have 5% all the way around and 35% on the front windshield. It takes a little getting used to at night but I love it. You can't see in at all unless I have the sunroof open during the daytime. Cops really don't bother me about it either. It's really more of a personal preference thing. If you want it dark, get it dark! I wouldn't think that they would "target" you too much. The only time I had an issue of it was when I got pulled over for DUI and dick head cop tried to get me for everything he could.

Were you guilty of that DUI? Then I understand why the cop was out to get you. You deserve everything you got slapped with, and more.
I live in NJ where any tinting of front windows is completely illegal. Yet tons of people have it... I don't see the sense in it. If a cop needs to meet his monthly quota, tinting is a neon sign that says "please officer, let me help you out"! |

FRONT REAR BACK
STATE SIDES SIDES WINDOW VISOR PA 70% 70% 70% NO FL 28% 15% 15% AS1 NJ NO ANY% ANY% NO NY 70% 70% ANY% 6" CT 35% 35% ANY% AS1 Some info I found. Some states absolutly suck as I see it. In CT if you get pulled over for tint and they don't have a meter to check it they give you a warning that requires you to get your car inspected. My tinter told me that on the SI with a tint of 35% I would probably not be legal. I did here someone say that if they passed a cop they would open the sun roof which lightens the car up and the tint doesn't look so dark! LOL No state as I can see is legal to tint the whole front windshield and personally don't think it is safe. State Window Tinting Laws |

(I mean, besides shemmy, webby, 8thgenuser, atruhondagrl, bizzy, cam, dent, gonzo, jasonandre, marco, silver8th, twisted, tim, wing, blueroadster, caliguy, cook, erich, ethlar, firmhonda, jro, nomar, sicky, and yodums) ![]() 5% is the best for a black car. I love how it looks on my car personally. Well, whatever choice you make in the end, just make sure it's the same all around. Lighter in the front and super dark in the back looks tacky in my opinion. Uniformity is key. Haha. |

Disclaimer at the bottom says to check local laws. All though it says last updated Jan 16th 2007 and I can't imagine they really changed much since then.
I have checked other sites and they have shown the same results for my state but I didn't compare all 50. The best thing really is to ask your Tinter. I had my windows done at Tint master. The gentleman has been doing this a long time and he was very honest with me about the local laws and how some of the local officials enforce them. So I stayed with 35% sides 20% rear window 5% for sun strip. Plus one town locally the cops are fricken jerks and I just do not want to give them a reason to pull me over. On nights when they are on a rampage as your drive by the cars that are pulled over 9 times out of 10 they are sporty or driving by a younger person. I am not young but the Fiji blue si stands out and gets targeted. I have to say the PA laws if they are up to date on that site reallllllllyyyyyyy SUCK. 70% why even bother then! |

IMO, you should go with a high heat rejecting ceramic 70% or 50% and hope for the best. You might get away with it and still enjoy 99% UV rejection and 50% heat rejection (more than some 5% films out there). |
