D.I.Y. Splitters
Ok well i couldnt post up in the DIY sections so my thread is going here. thanks to my boy freeride, i was able to do this simple mod. all you really need is some plexiglass from your local hardware store, a dremel/jigsaw, paint, and doublesided tape. you can find the template that freeride59 has created that i used here at his original thread. Homemade Air Splitter for HFP front lip i took that template and traced it to cardboard so i have an easier and sturdier template to work with.
*My Template* ![]() i went to my local lowes here to get some plexi and this guy hooked me up with a sheet he was gonna throw away. cant beat $1.58+tax! *Plexi Sheet* ![]() ![]() *Taken Off Protective Plastic* ![]() be careful with plexi. it is glass and it will cut you. oh and it also breaks pretty easy... *My One Set-back* ![]() after a few minutes of some dremeling, i was about to get my basic shape cut out. i then grinded/sanded the edges smoothe. *One Cut Out* ![]() so once i got the shape the way i wanted it, it was ready to be primed. here in the pic, i have 3 coats of prime. and those holes were drilled because i was originally going to mount them with the screws from my hfp kit, but the screws arent long enough. *Prime Time!* ![]() once primer dried, i put about 3 coats of color, and 2 clear. everyone who has ever painted knows the man rule, light coats! *Color And Clear* ![]() ok once paint finally dries, slap some 3M double sided tape, its the same kind of tape already on hfp kit so it holds up really well. on to the final pics!! *Mounted* ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() if you rep me, remember to rep freeride59! that looks sick! carbon fiber would be awesome though, it woulda matched the hood. ive seen DIYs on making carbon stuff, that seems like it would be simple.
i went and found some carbon fiber DIYs: DIY Carbon Fiber Splitter/Diffuser/Cow Catcher DIY: Carbon Fibre (Lots of Pics) - The Unofficial BMW M5 Messageboard (m5board.com) |

Nice work, but as far as functionality it's not going to do much since the portion of air that is being split is relatively small. It needs to go across the whole bumper to really take advantage of the Bernoulli principle.
