Washing Technique!
I did a search and couldn't find a thread dedicated to this, so no flames please. I'm also not sure where to post this so i'll try here. Untill i bought my 08 Si, i had always taken my old car to an old drive thru carwash, i didn't care much for its paint getting scratched etc. But now that i have a new car, i have been told that it is better to hand wash it myself.
The time had finally come for me to wash my car. I probably chose a bad time because it was Sunny and pretty hot, about 65-75 degrees. I had my soap, water and microfiber towel (looks more like some type of weird leather?) EDIT:just checked the name it's a chamois. So anyway i rinse my car, begin washing it with soap, when im done cleaning i rinsed it again, and began to dry it with my microfiber towel. As i dry it i notice streaks, and about 20 minutes later, the entire car has streaks and the paint feels *nasty* and not smooth at all. What should i do? |

dont wash it on direct sunlight. use claybar then wax it good.
i personally just use touch free car washes because i dont have a lot of time to wash, claybar, wax polish etc.

1. this is in the wrong forum, you will get much better advice from those guru's that hang out in the detailing forum
2. touchless washes are useless 3. if it is not smooth it looks like you either did not clean it enough, or did not rinse away the dirt/soap away enough. |

touchfree wont even clean the rims but it's ok for now. if i find the time there's no question i'd do it myself.
it takes a lot of time but you'd be more satisfied if you DIY.

If you don't have a shaded area to work in, just hose off each section after you get it soapy. The trick is to keep the car wet. I usually move into the garage when it's time to dry, but if you must stay out in the sun, get a water blade. This will speed up your drying, reducing the amount of water spots.
Also, if it was in fact the oily chamois that was the problem, be sure you throw out that microfiber towel you used cuz that's sure to be ruined. |
