im not sure what you are talking about. but take that primed piece up there, sand it again with probably 320 or higher. then reprime it, sand that with a higher grit to get it smooth, put your color on, then clear it, if the clear is bumpy, wet sand it with 1500-2000 grit, then buff it (or polish it by hand)

but whoever sanded that looks like they used a wire brush.

damn look like i have to do it again.. cause that is not prime that is the actual paint color. so there is no way to make that paint smooth now beside doing it over right?

No, unfortunately. To smooth it, you will have to sand it down with 320 grit or higher and re-prime, paint and clear.

How about i sand it out with 320, prime it, sand the prime with 400, paint it, sand it with 400, last coat of paint sand with 800, and clear it?

Yeah, that will work, just make sure you don't go through the paint when you sand. And make sure you're always wetsanding.

Alright, updates!!

I went to a NAPA/CMAX in town this weekend, and I knew immediately that these guys know what they're doing, since they have an entire section of the store dedicated to paint. The guy let me go outside and colour-match the mixed paint before he put it in the can too, which was cool. I bought another can of the colour-matched paint since the old one was a mis-match (I checked) and I bought better quality clearcoat:

Info for the paint:

The rest of the process was the same as in my original post... and this time the paint DID match! The clearcoat also cured much smoother than the other stuff I was using.

Finally, INSTALLED PICS! Today was a crappy day weather-wise, so I'll take some better shots when we actually get some sun.

1825 Mississauga Rd.... I definitely recommend them over the one in Milton.

Plastic is probably your best bet, but anything non-porous should work--porous materials will soak up the paint and make them look darker (usually) than they really are. Ideally you should also apply primer on your test piece first, but that's getting a little anal retentive
