Need Help taking off shift boot connection!!!

So I have an Ex Model Civic and I went and baught a the Si shift boot so the connection with my skunk2 shift knob looks better. Now i'm having a hell of a time getting the silver plastic piece that the shift boot screws into off. Does anyone have any advice on getting this piece disconnected from the centre console? Thanks

You just pull it off. I grabbed the rim of the plastic piece, and pulled up.
