Removed Firewall Sound Detening

I got a little bored and i was looking back at these pics so i thought i would share. I've been meaning to start shaving weight off this heavy USDM 4 door civic, so this was a start. I'm trying to get it down to the weight of the CTR. So I'm starting by removing the sound det. out the the car since the CTR in Japan doesn't come with it, why do we need it? :]

I decided to take the dash out of the car to get to the heavy mat located behind the firewall. it took plenty amount of time to do, but it was well worth it since we all know that the CTR doesn't have that non sense weight.

Here's some pictures of the crap I removed. Next I'm going to be pulling all the sound det. through out the entire car, from the trunk to the front driver and passenger seats. I will need to remove almost the entire interior to get under there. with a days worth of dry ice.

check out this madness.

Dash still in tact.

stripping down.

Dash out.

This really muffled up the sound of ur motor. I can hear my V-Tec good now without it.

Removal of Sound Det.

Before Dash went back In.

All perfectly back in.

That insulation also keeps a lot of the heat from coming through. Definitely keep an eye on things.

Who in there right mind gets bored and decided to spend 15 hours pulling there dash apart to remove sound deadening material to save 5 lbs while having the interior sound of the vehicle compromised?

This might be the most ridiculous thing I've yet to see on this forum.

I agree with you on this one, XSRCivic.
While you are at it, go ahead and remove all the seats and just put one racing seat back in it.
That is a lot of work to remove 5lbs. of material that is actually useful.
To each his own...this will not be on my list of mods, EVER.

i removed the rear seats and stripped the trunk on my dx and it was just to loud in the car for me so after about a month i got sick of it and put the rear seats back in. If it saved more weight then i might have left it out but altogether they rear seats might weight 20 lbs

Glad I'm not the only one thinking about this. I can't even get my hand in behind the speedometer section of the windshield to clean it.
