Manufacturers' (not just Honda) practice of limit'g access to these parts for their limited models is nothing new. BMW does the same thing for non-M car owners from buying aero parts, mats, shifters, seats, engine covers, etc. anything w/ a "M" logo from making their ordinary 3 & 5 series into knock off M cars. Keeps owners of the real deal happy, limits liability, and most importantly limit fraud.

Work'g in an industry where this almost a daily occurance, we see owners of "plebian" Porsche 911's wreak their cars and think, "I've always like the Carerra 4s' wider fenders, or the Turbo's front bumper/lip, rear spoiler. Manufacters are keen on this and have their own VIN access w/ their respective DMVs. As far as someone order'g a new set of crash parts from their local dealer time to time and trying to turn them around for a profit, you must find someone will'g to give up a vital organ or sell their own mother to pay anything above what the dealer would sell these parts to the orig owner of a limited model.

Im pretty sure they will keep track of what each mugen owner orders so if Mr. Vin Diesel has lost 50 shift knobs in the last 2 weeks because he double clutches they would not allow it to happen. Then thay would need you to bring in the damage part and exchange it for a new one. I know if I see a Mugen civic parked something will fall off.

Hmm interesting, I heard about having a vin number but I wondered if it was that easy. I guess Honda isn't gonna be stupid about it and recognizes how easy it is to get a vin even if you don't work at a Honda dealership.

You really think the sale of the Mugen Si parts, would generate millions in sales? I hope your kidding. And I honestly am not surprised and to tell you the truth from the perspective of someone who might be interested in buying the car I wouldn't want all the parts available for order to just anyone. After all it is a limited edition car. Quote:
Do you really think Honda, as big of a company as they are makes a lot of money even producing or selling the Mugen Si? Porbably not. Quote:

Maybe I'm wrong but odds are they parts are mainly available for warranty claims which would normally be installed by a dealer regardless (where there should be no labor charge), or in case of an accident which once again would most likely be installed by a professional. And why would a Mugen Si owner buy a replacement know, short shifter, or boot? Well after a long shitty day theres my .02 Last edited by dt07Si; 11-08-2007 at 09:50 PM. |

Sorry you could not get your parts man. I feel your pain. I know they want Mugen Si owners to feel good a bout their investment, but its dumb to not want to make money off of Mugen partslike they are doing off the car.
One good thing to think a bout too for anyone thinking a bout Buying A Mugen Si is, 10 yrs from now if you still have that car and you have an accident or a part is stolen, how are you going to replace that part. I Imagine its not going to be there because they did not make extra parts because they didnt want it to sit in their plant doing nothing. Eventually they will sell the parts and never make them again and you are stuck with HFP part if those are still around. |

Uhhh, and you're surprised why?
If they didn't restrict sales then they'd completely lose out sales of the Mugen Si. I'm sorry, they make more money off somebody spending an extra $10,000 for the whole package than Mr. Shift Boot who spends $50-200. People into shift knobs and other doodads are not only a small niche, but also don't generate as much money. And face it, the only reason why you're mad that they need a VIN, plus a dealer to install it is because you want to be able to skim one off. People bash the Mugen Si, the people that buy it--yet it's an abhorrent sin that you can't get one part? And an consequential aluminum ball, for that matter? I mean you could buy CTR parts, which IMO have so much more prestige than Mugen. As for the exclusive aero parts, wait 6 months and some Chinese manufacturer will sell it at 30% of the cost. |
