Thanks for the welcome and for the replies. I'm not overly concerned about the road noise but read some complaints in the autos section on MSN. Heck, anything will be better than my current 12 year old hatchback anyways when it comes to noise

All depends what your comparing it to for road noise. My last car was a maxima, obviously no road noise, but previously i had a saturn and well the civic is 100% better then that. So to each his own.
But the civic road noise isnt bad and hasn't bothered me. |

road noise is not bad @ all in the civic.
I have placed dynamat in the doors, both inside the door against the outter shell, and the inner shell of the door. I've put dynamat throughout the entire trunk, including getting back into the rear 1/4 panels against the outter sheet metal, and i've put dynamat in the side panels, and against the outter sheet metal on the side panels. Here are a few of the benefits: - GREATLY reduced road noise - Increased SPL and speaker response - Increased SQL - When I shut the doors they sound like a mercedes/BMW, instead of a Honda - The resonance on the exterior panels is virtually gone - The above fact will also decrease my likelihood of small door dings and pressure dents because the sheetmetal is reinforced from the dynamat. The only negative aspect of dynamat is weight, but to be honest with you, covering all those areas with dynamat has only added 30lbs. |

I applied Accumat Hyperflex on my doors and trunk and the difference is really noticeable. The doors now have a solid thud sound when closed. And the noise from passing cars and trucks has been greatly reduced. The bass on the stock sound system is definitely tighter and louder. I would recommend dampening the car. It really helps. This weekend I'm doing the floor.
By the way, the Civic does has noticeable engine and road noise. I have measured it with my trusty Rat-Shack SPL meter, and it does not lie. I drove my friends 98 Mazda Millenia and it was a lot easier to carry on a conversation in his car than in my pre-dampened Civic. BTW, sometimes it's better not being able to hear people talk. |
