SUggestions on protecting the interior

I have found that the generally everyone agrees that 303 aerospace protectant is the best product to use on things like door panels, plastic parts, rubber parts, and just about everything else in the car. However it does not say to use on cloth. Is there a product I can spray onto my cloth seats to protect them from spills, etc? The dealership sells "resist-all" which nicely waterproofs the cloth interior, so I'm looking for a cheap alternative to do myself. Any suggestions?

3M Scotchgard fabric & upholstery protector. You can find it in the automotive aisle at Target. I'm sure they carry it at WalMart as well.

No problem. I just picked up a can of Scotchgard myself. I just did the headrests, armrests and the floor mats for now. Yeah, the weather stinks. I actually managed to wash my car yesterday in the breaks of rain. There was a heavy drizzle while I was washing but the weather cleared again by the time I was drying my car. Lucky.

The Scotchgard stinks at first when you apply it. Use it in a well ventilated area. The smell goes away in a few hours...remember to roll those windows down while it dries. I don't know what to tell you guys who don't have the luxury of a garage.

My buddy scotchguarded his seats on his scion tc. This is supposed to make liquid bead up instead of absorb into the fabric. It didn't work. My buddy spilled a bit of water and it soaked right into the fabric. The fabric in those scions seems more durable but it's less comfortable.

Ultimately, you need seat covers to protect the fabric.

Scotchgard has various formulas for various fabrics. Not all of them are designed to repel water as well. You'll want to find some of this stuff if you can: http://www.3m.com/us/home_leisure/sc...rotector.jhtml

I'm sure your buddy went to Target and found this stuff (like I did):

I did a test using the latter product and water did roll off of the fabric, but some water did get absorbed by the fabric. The latter isn't really designed for matted fabric like our car seats, but still offers some level of protection (better than nothing!).

I used 3M Scotchgard fabric & upholstery protector on the carpet and seats. On the dash and the other plastic panels I just use regular water to wipe them down. It looks great and doesn't attract the dust like petrolium based products due.

Civicboy, have you tested the fabric & upholstery protector? How do you like it? How does it perform? Do you recommend it to others?

Actually, I think my buddy had his TC professionally scotched by the dealership. They wouldn't have said they did it and really didn't....would they? Whoever heard of a dishonest dealership?

I'm sure that dealership did a half-assed job of Scotchgard-ing or they used another branded fabric protector that doesn't repel water. I did a pretty half-assed job myself using the Scotchgard fabric protector on my headrests, but even a light coat of that stuff made water drops bead away on my test run. The fabric did absorb some water at the point of initial contact.
