Getting Emblems Off

What is the best way to take off an emblem on a car. i have a dealer emblem stuck on my car and i have been wanting to take it off every since i bought the car. i just dont want to mess up the paint job by scratching it. if you could give me some suggestions that would be helpful. i heard you could used a heat gun or a hair dryer to get it off. thanks in advance

Buy dental floss - if you live in a hot climate, just park your car outside in the sun for a few hours and then slip the dental floss behind the emblems, make a sawing motion back and forth, you may have to do this from a few different angles - that should loosen them enough to either twist them off or gently pull them off. If you're not in a hot climate then just get any old hairdryer and heat up the emblem and floss saw it. Then you can usually pull the excess globs of sticky stuff left over with your fingers and finally use a gentle rubbing compound like Meguires ScratchX to get any leftover residue off. If you want to remove your rear H from your trunk, it's a little trickier since it also is attached with two prongs that go into your trunk. After you pull off the H, you'll have two holes there and will have to pop out the mounting plugs for your H from the inside of your trunk lid and then either have it filled and painted or go ghetto like I am temporarily and get some plugs from your Home Depot and paint them to match the car - but I like the extreme clean look, no emblems, stickers etc.

Happy de-badging!

Just get some Goo Gone or Adhesive remover let it soak for about 1 min on the foam backing of the emblem then pry up gently with your fingers. It's easy.

I used this stuff:

i just used some fishing line..the floss kept breaking...but what kind of emblem is it? a sticker? if its a sticker then just get the hair dryer or set it in the sun for a while until its warm then pull it off. and for the left over residue use some Goo Gone or WD 40.

I pulled my badges off without heating it up first, and it was not a real hot day. Heat may be more useful if its a decal/vinyl that you are trying to get off and not a badge/emblem.

Once off, I also used goo gone to get rid of the left over residue. I would suggest waxing the area also for future protection.
