PA Tint Laws
I want to get my windows tinted but the law here is 70%, I really don't feel like having to get stupid "fix it" tickets or worse. 70% isn't even worth the trouble of getting it done, so what should I do? Maybe something like 50% and it won't look too bad?

Call me retarded, but when you have the percentage with tint, is that the amount of light that gets through or the amount that gets blocked?
According to this site, tinting has to allow more than 70% in. Does that 30% tint is the max? Also it says no tint is legal for the windshield so that could be a problem. |

Yeah. That was just information to clarify what the % means. Based on 0% and 100%, now people can go from there and figure out what 20% means vs 70%.

okay, i've seen tons of people with a strip of tint above that line on the windshield but PA says you can't have that at all *unless it's factory* i can't believe some states, like GA, let you have 32% (front windows) and other states, PA, NJ, and a couple more are up around 70. probably can't even tell if someone has 70, i'll do what webby advised which was go 50 and see what happens. it's understandable i suppose since the hotter states need to have better protected windows, but i'd still like to have my car at least look as hot as the others by chance, anyone have pics of a car with 50 all around? i haven't searched the forum yet, but i just figured while i was on the topic i'd ask... searching now......... |

i feel like you're from CA just from other posts, but i forget. CA has 70% for the front but then it's up to you for the rest... so may i ask, what did you have in the front that cost you $180 the first time?
i figure if i only go to 50 i shouldn't even be bothered.. i'm guessing you probably had around 30-35 |

California law allows NO tint at all in the front, the websites that you're reading saying 70 is the legal limit is outdated, so I suppose you should be lucky although IMO 70% isn't even noticeable tint... much less 50. I've never heard of 50% being pulled over simply because it's so light and barely noticeable. I've seen some stock BMW and Benz windows darker than 50%. I suggest you going down to the tint shop and seeing how dark 50 really is. 50 is really light, you can see clearly through the window during the daytime and night. I think I mentioned this in another post but my friend had a camry that had 50% and I had no idea til he actually told me.
And I would have to guess to get pulled over 35% is usually the "line" that cops start pulling you over. I've never heard of anyone getting pulled over for anything above 35. And rolling down your windows while seeing a cop isn't always safe, pending on what car you drive. My friend had a turbo'd rsx and they asked him to pop his hood and roll up his windows... needless to say he had to remove both the turbo and the tint ![]() |
