California does allow tint in the front windshield. The catch is that it has to be clear...100% light through. I learned that in traffic school! A whole 8 hours and that's probably the most useful information I got out of it.

I've heard of movie stars getting pulled over in LA for having tinted side windows. Maybe the cops were just looking to get an autograph.

well Jim, i did get outdated data, and i appreciate your input. so say i went with 40 in the front and 35 in the back? i saw a rallye red car on here with tint and it really made the car look nice... i don't want it TOO dark where i'm just tempting cops to pull me over, i'd rather have a good look without having to worry about getting pulled over

I wonder if there are tints that look darker from far away and clear from up close?

Well if you're going to do 40 in front with 35 in back you might as well go 35 all around. It will be obvious that your back windows are tinted and if a cop compares your back windows to your front windows it'll be pretty obvious they're tinted as well. I see tint as going all or nothing, if you want "safe" tint, it's not even worth buying. If you want good looking tint, it's bound to be noticeably illegal

And 8thgen is right about the windshield. I was talking about front side windows everytime I mentioned front because most people don't tint their windshields anyways.

Btw, name's Jin

well i'll do 45-50 in the front and 35 in the back.... the two rear windows are so small that they probably somewhat look tinted anyway (in the coupe), and the rear window well... i don't know..maybe i'll just do 50 in the rear window... 50 is better than having nothing right? from a practical standpoint, it should keep heat out better than not having anything

my dad knows the chief of police for this city, i'm having him ask what the *updated* laws are and how they act towards tinting.

also, sorry about the name, i've read it so many times on this forum thinking it was jim and i never looked close enough to tell otherwise.
again, i'm sorry jin

Yah so let's just hope the cop isn't an ass and test your front windows after seeing your backs are tinted

No harm done on the name

Not on 8th gens no... most people do 35, 20, 15, or 5. Like I said, 50 just isn't worth it... but here's some examples

thanks, i'll just try it... the rallye red has black interior so maybe that'll give it a little extra shade. i'll do 50 in the front and 35 in those 2 little side windows and then 50 in the back, i'm sure doing 50 will look better than nothing

It wouldn't be tint if it was clear.

I was pulled over in NY for having too dark tint. 70% is the law here in NY. I had 50% put on, the windows were factory tinted already. The test came to 38%. It didn't seem dark at all.

If I put on any tint film, it'll be the clear or slightly colored tint. You can have clear tint, it blocks UV rays which protects the interior and also your eyes :)

I have 5% tint on the sides and back and 35% tint on the windshield of my Celica and I live in PA... never been pulled over because of it. I just roll down the windows when I see cops.
