^paint makes CF more functional. LOL

I get what you mean, I just thought the way you said it was f*ckin' awesome

The popular thing to do now is paint parts of the CF so that it flows better with the lines of the car, but you leave a bit showing because it's more tasteful that way. Another relatively new fad is to put a layer of metallic flakes or pearl over the CF so when light hits it at certain angles, it'll reflect red/blue/whatever and give the CF a colored look. :O

There is no point in Buying a Carbon fiber hood if your gonna end up painting it anyways. The reason why its worthless, is because you arent really losing much weight in the first place, since out hoods are light. BUT a Carbon fiber hood does look good, thats why people get it, and also for weight-loss.

It will also extend the aesthetic life of your hood before you have to reclearcoat it. CF hoods do not come with any kind of UV resistance in their clear, and are prone to oxidization (yellowing). Having a body shop wetsand and clearcoat the hood with quality paint will make the hood look "wet" as you noted, will reduce how much light bends over imperfections, and will give you a nice thick layer of clearcoat to work with when buffing etc.

lol at speedDemon maybe you can get a light coat so you can partially still see the weave? I think F50s original paint was thin and you can see the weave underneath
